I have been working at Zions Bancorporation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people and environment. The culture is good and there is opportunity for growth.

    Cons

Recently the CEO made a decision and passed the buck down to lower levels of management to share the bad news. Lately I've been less impressed with the CEO as he has made some poor choices (in my opinion) to focus on expenses over employees.

    Advice to Management

Even though expense reduction is important don't forget the human aspect in your decisions.

I worked at Zions Bancorporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly and knowledgeable coworkers. Typical 8-5 job. Good job security.

    Cons

Benefits are some of the worst around. Very high deductible health insurance. Total lack of job training. The computer system is completely ancient (black screen, MSDos input style); although it is in the process of being replaced. Employees are milked for process improvement ideas and little recognition given back to them. Back office employees lack morale. Fear of getting called out or yelled at is the motivation for many employees to do anything.

    Advice to Management

Enough with the cutbacks. Treat employees with a little more respect via health benefits, training, etc (these are basic things).

I have been working at Zions Bancorporation as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Work attire is very relaxed. You can wear what you want to within reason. Several employee perks (summer BBQ, discounts for retailers) even as a contractor.

    Cons

This particular department is very cliquish and has severe conflicts of interest among leadership.

    Advice to Management

Do an in depth look into leadership structure and the employees relationships to another. An absent manager shouldn't have a married couple fill in for him.

I have been working at Zions Bancorporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Management is easy to work with. The team is very helpful. Great benefits and work great with scheduling time off.

    Cons

The main con is that there is only one location. So unless you live in West Valley you will have a commute

I worked at Zions Bancorporation (Less than a year)

    Pros

Casual dress code, vacation, holidays off. The pay is good depending on the job/department you are in. Some managers truly care and would do anything for their employees while others are just there for a paycheck.

    Cons

Lots of favoritism. A lot of people with great talent go unnoticed where as some of the people who have been there for a certain amount of time and don't know what they are doing get recognized and moved up more. The systems are still stuck in the 1980's and should get with the current technology.

    Advice to Management

Make the company more appealing to work in. Give more incentive and listen to the people's concerns. Give more time to develop and grow no matter what job in the corporation. Stop the favoritism! Find a way to have balance between high productivity but still show you care about your employee rather than just numbers. Take care of your employees and your employees will take care of you!

I worked at Zions Bancorporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of good people at the bancorp with good ideas and passion for excellence - I continue to have great connections with these people. Great programs for employee retention - I had a budget to take my team out to lunch on a quarterly basis. Good respect for work-life balance.

    Cons

Exec & Senior IT management in Tech and Operations are not what I would describe as great or even good leaders and they can exhibit terrible communications. At times they seem to be driven more by reaction to audit and compliance instead of innovation or business values. Some would describe this as a very politicized environment.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees, there is actually a.wealth of creativity among the worker bees.
If you're in a 1:1 with a direct report, don't multi-task, sorry that should be obvious.
Annual Reviews should cover the entire year, not the last 3 months.
Imagine a skip-level with the CIO or CTO..... would they condescend to that?

    Pros

Wide range of information that passes through your position. Great for quick, rapid learning.

    Cons

Pay could be higher, additional traning or moving up has been difficult.

    Advice to Management

Provide proper training for all aspects to obtain proper performance. However that may be
