Galleys is not an innovative company, no potential growth professionally and no new product research

      Pros

This company use to be Driessen Galleys until bought out by Zodiac recently (French Company). The company has new opportunities to expand their product line globally. Good place to start your engineering experience as a recent college graduate. Beyond that not much to add for pro's.

      Cons

Zodiac Galleys has many problems and have lot to learn to find solutions. They are problem creators and do not have long term goals for success. Here is a list of short term solutions to their long term problems. - Outsource engineering work to foreign nationals - Mostly short term contract employment (hourly and low pay) - Mostly tribal knowledge engineering practice and processes. - Parking problems. Employees receive tickets past 3 warnings. - Lack of proper training and no direction on professional growth - Both engineering and project management do not communicate effectively to tackle problems - 1 engineering manager does not share information and prefers to be the super manger to do it himself - Lots of egos in upper management - they do not lead or manage by best practice - Most managers have NO people skills to resolve conflicts and create a working team environment. - Older management that do not promote innovation just meet the numbers

Scare tactics, no reward for dedication

      Pros

Opportunity for travel. They say I need 20 words, sadly this is hard... This company use to mean something. We use to be happy to work long hours and were happy to be part of something big. That left when the French took over.

      Cons

The whole system is set up for failure, starting with upper management. Corporate sent the French over to help. They are completely sexist, and look down on American culture. Scare tactics are uses instead of incentives; no one knows if they wi have a job in the coming weeks. You are set up for failure, and when you put in time, intelligence, and innovation, they only consider you a scapegoat. When the lead engineering manager was let go, the French said, "what did you expect? That the CEO in France would allow a woman director?!". HR is a joke, sexual harassment happens daily. Merit is completely based on politics and not accomplishments. All directors are a complete political joke. Avoid at all costs--try the Bay Area if you want a progressive, equal opportunity company that values intelligence and hard work.

      On a path to collision

      Pros

Good place to work if you're an intern. Not the worst place to work, but it ranks high up there (yes, this is a pro, believe it or not). Great place to learn how NOT to do things this company does.

      Cons

Worst management ever! Senior managements treat employees like uneducated people. Managements acknowledge you only if you're upper management or your rank is high. Constant power play. Gross abuse of power. People who have plans to institute positive changes are vilified, and those changes are highly discouraged because it means certain managers will lose their jobs due to increase efficiency. Chaos reigns only to protect job security. Instead of trimming paper weights, they hire more inexperienced people to put out fires. Turnover rate is worse than retail. Improvement ideas from the bottom up are squashed. How can you fix the problem when the problem originates from the top. Software tools are enacted company wide without intelligent evaluations. Company runs on a reactive instead of proactive model.

      Short Experience

Dec 31, 2015 - Engineer in Santa Barbara, CA

      Pros

Worked here as second job out of school. Got along well with coworkers, friendly mid-management. Good experience to have, not too stressful, work was varied in nature. Some very smart people to learn from. When I left they were trying to increase focus on (and funding for) R&D. I hope they did.

      Cons

Below standard pay, mediocre to bad benefits, upper management is not transparent and seems to be slow-moving and out of touch with operations. Most people are seen as costs rather than investments and the turnover rate shows this to be true. Sort of a feeder for better companies. Morale was pretty low in many locations and solidarity was is short supply (funny for a French company). They were working on methods for transfer of knowledge and recognized the tribal nature of most current knowledge, but they hadn't fixed it when I left. I felt bad for production staff as they were treated very poorly and even the experienced skilled ones that the engineers relied on for quality were severely underpaid and under-appreciated.

I would recommend that you avoid this company. The following comments are not embellished.

      Pros

Exposure to Catia V5, composites and fresh college grads.

      Cons

      - Very poor pay (50K or less for a new Engineering grad). - Long hours 60+ if you want to avoid being on a manager's short list. - Upper management is incompetent at best and destructive at worst. - Lack of structure, clear vision for growth and employee development. - The general manager of ZSH suspended an employee for 3 days without pay for forgetting to the a chapter in the "Toyota Way," which was part of a mandatory book club. I am not joking.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes

Sep 22, 2017 - Engineer in Santa Maria, CA

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Ability to do good and make a difference. Hard working individuals, many starting fresh in aviation industry with positive intentions.

      Cons

Upper management only cares about their shipping bonus. Not enough "experienced" aviation technicians are being hired, only local labors, some from industries that do not correlate to FAA strict regulations and thrust into quality roles without formal training, causes for high volume of unnecessary rework, overworked work force and low morale because those in charge do not posses foresight, only firefighting so end results remain the same. A pack of band-aid applicators.

      Pros

You receive a paycheck. 100% employer match for 401k. Turning in a letter of resignation is a truly gratifying experience.

      Cons

Low wages for aerospace industry. Incompetent, clueless management team. No parking at Huntington Beach location. Routinely get parking tickets for parking on street due to street sweeping times during normal business hours. Building is up the street from a dump and the odor is horrendous. Antiquated business systems and business practices. No clear vision, mission, strategy, etc. from upper management. Overworked and undervalued. Individuals who do virtually nothing are paid significantly more than those that perform the "real work." High turnover and low morale. Ridiculously high medical premiums for third rate health plan options.
