I have been working at Zogenix full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Zogenix offers extreme autonomy when it comes to sales and running your territory. Management stands behind each employee always asking that employee what they need to become successful. Zogenix has a great company culture and they reward hard work and great performance.

    Cons

Currently, the company has only one product to sell. The territories tend to run large due to the niche market they have carved out in Neurology. Zogenix will live or die by the sales of Sumavel this year so one has to have an appetite for big risk/reward in order to be successful here.

    Advice to Management

push hard to get more products approved

I worked at Zogenix full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Really nice people who genuinely care about each other. These are very talented folks.

    Cons

There is always a lack of money, belt tightening, cost cutting, do more with less going on. It's never ending. It's a small company, so the HR support is not what it should be. The IT department is not what it should be. The overall access to resources to do your job is...not what it should be. However, the lack of money dictates all of my listed cons. Is it a 'con' to not have enough money? It can be when it affects your ability to get the right tools/people for the job.

    Advice to Management

You can only do what you can with the money you have. Considering how many hard times this company has managed to survive, I give management a lot of credit for being able to stay afloat.

    Pros

Despite a challenging market and limited resources, Zogenix, culturally is a great place. Expectations are high to deliver but loyalty is rewarded and overall, the people are exceptional.

    Cons

The company is in a very challenging market, struggling with revenue and profitability. Experience is key and the ability to work independently and know what needs to be accomplished.

    Advice to Management

Don't let the market dictate efforts and don't chase unicorns. Some folks are of more value than others and keeping the others around does not help the business.

I have been working at Zogenix full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They pay a high base and commission, but wait a minute.. here come the lay offs!!!

    Cons

The management hires a huge sales force and 13 weeks into the launch of the new product then lays off 20-30 people. They were shortsighted in their planning for the launch, they appeared caught off guard at every turn and they promise a 1 year window to get the product moving. THESE reps (all seasoned) were let go with 12 hours notice! What does that say to the rest of the sales force? It says "you are next"!! RUN RUN AWAY!!!

    Advice to Management

For upper management, get an idea of what you are doing! Don't make lofty promises and then put great people out on the curb in less than 3 months of a launch. Maybe you should re-think your style and abilities.. Stop patting yourselves on the back and get things done! I'm out ASAP!

I have been working at Zogenix full-time

    Pros

Small company with the ability to get things done without all the layers of management

    Cons

Management not prepared for obstacles during launch. They expect SAMs to get unrealistic results and turn a blind eye to violations of Pharma code. Management says one thing but expects you to do whatever it takes.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach! It was suppose to be a "pharma for adults" type company; you are the CEO, etc. If you want sales done appropriately, then you should have been prepared to give the appropriate time and support for the launch of your new product. You started make jobs cuts before the end of the first quarter of launch. It is understandable that you cannot anticipate every possible scenario, but it would have been better to respond immediately when controversy started surfacing instead of taking a wait and see approach.

I worked at Zogenix full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    I no longer work there!

    Cons

Where to start?? Poor management, no direction for sales, they lay people off like most people change socks and upper management is so clueless that they are pushing a very unsafe and scary product on these providers. When the doctors push back, the reps are blamed.

    Advice to Management

Let someone else take control. Pharma for adults??? How about learning your product landscape before sending unsuspecting reps out like sheep in a wolf den!!!! Just sell the product to Pfizer or Merck.. oh that's right.. they did not want it either!
