      Pros

The students are great people who really want to learn English.

      Cons

From the beginning, Zoni required me, a part-time teacher paid $18 hourly, to work without pay outside the classroom to complete lesson planning and grading. These are essential functions for a teaching position, and it is outrageous and unethical to demand that this work be done for free. A lawsuit was filed against Zoni in 2016-7 by teachers for exactly this reason. Unfortunately, it failed. (See Fernandez vs. Zoni Language Centers.) Also, at the time of hiring, the company asked me to sign a non-compete that I wouldn't work for any other language school in New York for a year after I left Zoni. I refused to sign that, and the company still hired me. Second, the company is incompetent and exploitative in terms of management. There is only lip service paid to teacher development. All that matters is that there is a warm body standing in front of the students. This leads to the third point: Zoni is failing its students. The company doesn't act in their best interests and there is little attention paid to their educational or personal development. There is no real student counseling, student placement is haphazard, and students aren't informed of holiday breaks in a timely fashion (this is done in order to get them to continue to pay for courses). Zoni is a sham educational institution. In my experiences, empoyees are being treated unethically and students suffer. Stay far, far away.

      Pros

No homework, except grading tests (which are often) Somewhat easy to get coverage for time off The students who want to be there are wonderful!!!!!!!!!

      Cons

The Visa-based students do NOT want to be there, and we cannot fail them. Low pay with no chance for a raise. Missing/disorganized resources. Constant class switching.

Don't bother unless you need experience

      Pros

The job is good for people with no experience.

      Cons

The current pay is at a measly $18 an hour with a BA and TESOL certification and $19 for an M.A. Micromanaging is nonstop. Awful, overpriced, outdated textbooks with numerous spelling and grammar mistakes. There are discrepancies in the digital and hard copy versions of the books. For example, a vocabulary word that is in the hard copy is not used in the digital copy and vice versa which confuses students when going over the answers.

Education is the most Beneficial Life Investment

      Pros

The business innovation that Zoni Language focuses on is giving everyone a fair chance to learn English through innovative ways and through intensive English programs. Zoni Language’s business model is a relatively new idea because it is one of the few companies that has locations, better known as small campuses, all over the world. The campuses are specifically designed to teach people English through their programs. Their business model provides each student a balanced education, but also includes fun activities such as making time for educational and student bonding trips that allow students to interact with each other outside of the classroom. Each of Zoni’s campuses or centers is similar to a small college, except instead of teaching multiple disciplines, they focus solely on teaching people English, which is a unique business model. Their main innovation is offering virtual classes and online exams. This is both environmentally friendly and considerate for people who might have issues with transportation or scheduling.

      Cons

There has been no downsides for the time I have worked at Zoni Language Centers.
