    I worked at Zoo Atlanta

    Pros

Cool experience as far as getting behind-the-scenes interaction with animals. Cool research and conservation projects

    Cons

Pay is horrible. Don't understand how upper management expects you to perform at a high-level with such a poor salary. Everything is old. People have been working there for 10+ years and don't adapt to change easily. No real career growth.

    I worked at Zoo Atlanta

    Pros

Laid back environment. Flexible scheduling. Behind the scenes access to zoo animals for family and friends. Free tickets to the Zoo. Interesting experience to learn about the animals. Great place to work if you're in college.

    Cons

Non profit organization so money is limited for everything. The organization doesn't pay very well. Promotions and pay increases are rare. Many of the individuals who work there have been with the organization for many years. As a result, change and/or progression is frowned upon. Many prefer to stick with the status quo. There's quite a bit of nepoticism. If you're not in the right circles, dating or married to the right people, the work experience will not be very positive. If you are looking to improve your professional skills, this is not the place to be. Due to the lack in budget funds, nothing is industry standard or even close to industry standard. Many things lack systems and are done manually. If employed here too long, you can lose your skillset due to the organization not being technically progressive. Management are either on a powertrip, a seat warmer or waiting for retirement so nothing progressive coming from that group.

I have been working at Zoo Atlanta part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Zoo atmosphere. A plethora of educational and professional backgrounds creating a diverse network of people. Everyone is very hands-on and transparent in all areas.

    Cons

Professional growth is not likely, must get education or wait for someone to move forward for a good position to become vacant. Some people have held their jobs for over 10 years and receive very little benefits.

I have been working at Zoo Atlanta

    Pros

    1) Very close relationships are built 2) Not for profit offers a mission and vocation to the job 3) Animals

    Cons

There are really no down sides other than the pay is less than working for some bigger companies that are for profit. However, I do not see that as much of a con.

I have been working at Zoo Atlanta

    Pros

It's great to work outside in a zoo environment. Obviously, having the opportunity to work with animals is a unique experience.

    Cons

Downsides include extremely low pay and poor benefits. The zoo does not contribute to a retirement plan.
