I worked at Zopa full-time (More than a year)
Pros

- The .NET tech stack is being rewritten in Java/Kotlin, meaning a lot of .NET devs experienced with the domain have left recently
- Lots of internal politics
Advice to Management
Don’t hire any more .NET devs now as it is unfair when they arrive and find a legacy tech stack that is being migrated away from

I have been working at Zopa full-time (Less than a year)
Pros
Zopa aims to employ likeminded people that really care about what they do and the difference they can make. If you want to get recognised and be involved in making a true difference within the future of banking then this is the place to be! Everyone is actively encouraged to “be yourself”. It’s a hugely refreshing working environment with a culture to match. The values aren’t just ‘words on a wall’, employees really live out the values here and this includes the Exec Board! You can sense the difference as soon as you walk through the door where the overarching goal is to #makemoneyfeelgood Employees are empowered by the ‘Tribe’ organisational structure to figure out how best to service a customers evolving needs and then create it! It’s a place where great people do some super cool great things, it’s a place that you can be proud to work!
Cons
Honestly, I can’t think of any!
Advice to Management
Raise our profile, Zopa is one of the best kept secrets!

I worked at Zopa full-time (More than a year)
Pros
Great, smart people
Ethos is spot on with trying to do something good
Enthusiasm for what they want to achieve
Cons
Lack of follow through with professional development
Flat structure causes a lot of miscommunication
Management not always aware what projects are happening and crossing over
Employees who pick up slack are not always the ones rewarded
Advice to Management
Adhere to your ethos of training internal and giving people the skills for new roles rather than bringing in new people.
Review flat structure as the company grows, is it really working?
Where are you spending money - is it on half baked ideas or on giving the people that keep your company going the salary increases they deserve.
Invest in your people as much as you say you do and you won't have so many people leaving.
Admit when things aren't working/don't work and look how to fix it.
Live the values that you put forward even as you grow as a company

Pros
There was breakfast but wasn't the best quality.
Cons
Insecure and inexperienced management .
Advice to Management
Resign and let people who know what they are doing come to the forefront

Zopa Response

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, we really value all feedback.
We agree we have great office locations in both London and Barcelona.
Last year, we completed a compensation review and as a result made adjustments to ensure our salaries are competitive. As for the our tech stack, Zopa is a polyglot tech shop and we are constantly evolving and seeking the best technologies to keep us innovative, which is usually what excites any new joiners and existing Zopians. We continue to invest in .net as it remains an important part of our stack alongside Java, Kotlin, and Python. On the Data stack we have evolved from using SQLServer only 3 years ago, to being reliant on SQL for the relational use cases, Redis for the Key-Value embodiments and Kafka for Message bus stream processing uses. We believe that companies that stay still and don’t evolve their tech stacks or processes, eventually may become irrelevant. Zopa is not such a company.
We hope that our team captured all your feedback at the exit interview, as we use those insights to drive positive change.... MoreLess
