Occasional free stuff and a 35% discount
Cons
This place cares more about the LGBTQ community than it does of the heterosexual community. I was not only treated differently than others but could not speak on some of the same issues as then/with them. I am 10 years older than most of ny former crew here and was also treated unfairly for my age with many ageist comments thrown my way. One complaint to E line from a coworker who days prior refused to even do his job and they fired me. Gave me no reason at all. I was constantly asked why I ask for a day off and constantly called to come in on my days off. I once asked 3 weeks ahead of time for a weekend shift off to spend my daughter to only be told it was "BS and personal time" so I shouldn't have even requested it off. Keep in mind I applied for this time off 3 weeks ahead (they ask for two) and asked for it to be unpaid.

You Probably Shouldn’t Work Here

They’re diverse. Care about each store’s individuality or so they say. Met some of the best coworkers there. Very chill environment.
Cons
Assistant manager gets paid $6 less than store manager but does the same amount of work if not more. The store and district managers are a joke. They make promises and then never follow through on them. They never tell you the full truth about what comes with a promotion. Never got trained. Management does not care about employees safety and in general. Sales Associates get paid $9/hr, assistant managers get paid $11.50/hr and the store manager gets paid salary but makes roughly around $17/hr. Will hire outsiders before promoting current employees. Doesn’t respect employees schedules. No benefits. Management is typically passive aggressive towards everyone.

It’s the people, not the work

I LOVED my coworkers! Plus the discount was nice on some things and the opportunity to attend really cool events
Cons
The customers can be really rude. The expectations of sales is kind of hard to reach. The theft is hard to avoid.

the manger is sucks and belittles you

Pros
Zumiez has a great atmosphere. It's very laid-back with essentially no dress code and extremely nice employees. The company treats its employees very well-- giving employee discounts, growth opportunities, and a yearly, all-expenses paid trip for the company's top earners.
Cons
While Zumiez treats its employees well, the pay rate of retail employees does not reflect that. As a sales associate with no prior experience, I was given a pay rate of $8/hr. After a change in management, our new manager was able to bump my pay up to $9/hr, but I was told there wasn't much room for improvement in my current position. Assistant managers aren't paid much better-- I'm told it's around $11/hr for them. We did receive commission on sales over $100, but my store was a smaller, quieter store and these sales were few and far between.

Go to any other retailer instead.

I had some great experiences and met some amazing people during my time at Zumiez, although issues with management severely diminished the experience of my own and many others.
Cons
There’s very little support from corporate, they don’t care about their sales associates and often ignore emails sent to HR reporting incidents in the store in order to protect managers.

Pros
Zumiez typically is a fun and laxed environment if you and your coworkers do what you're supposed to. You can pretty much wear what you want. 15% employee discount. Managers get higher but idk how much.
Cons
They still pay tenure sales associates minimum wage while you watch the clothes get more and more expensive because of inflation and the economy. I have worked for 2.5 years working $8.25 as one of the best sales associates and yet over the years, $19.99 t shirts are $27.99 and the 4 for $100 deal went to $125. Yet i'm still paid the same. It's kinda grimey. There is a 7 steps learning process on how to sell to people. If you are not good with people, they will drill this into you to make more sales. If you fit the zumiez vibe and match the customers energy, then you can naturally help customers with what they need and upsell. I've worked for pushier companies honestly.

- Generally cool vibes, fun culture, fun place to work - Customers a very fun when they aren't stealing - It is genuine sales experience - Store discount
Cons
- They want you to sell as if you were *paid* like a salesmen, but you're making retail money (min wage) - The commision is very negligable. You're really only selling in order to stay on the schedule - You really do have to watch out for theft, and be willing to confront people when you see it - Talking all day is socially tiring
