I have been working at Zumiez full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

As a store manager you are able to establish culture and environment that is cultivated by you and your in store leadership team, this is awesome and really gives the team the freedom to create the environment they want to work in. There is a lot of freedom within merchandising which allows for a vast amount of creativity. As a leader you are given the opportunity travel and be exposed to a variety of teaching and leadership styles which can greatly impact your ability to teach and lead in a positive way. The leadership training provided by Zumiez, especially once you become a store manager, is second to none. Full time staff receieve decent quality health coverage and other benefits.

    Cons

The expectations for the store leadership team are incredibly high. This creates an environment where, as a store manager, you are working 50+ hours weekly on your salary wage. The cultural, environmental, and especially the merchandising freedoms, although awesome, lack a great deal of structure which can create a lot of stress and inconsistency. Prioritization of their employees needs and wants on an upper management level (district manager level on up to corporate) is incredibly low. This seems to be a driving force behind high turnover throughout the store level teams.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your store teams' needs and wants. Stop cutting corners and recognize them for their hard, nonstop work and elevated commitment through competitive wages instead of free stuff gimmicks.

I worked at Zumiez full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent money, laid back you can wear whatever. The music you listen to at the store is usually your choice.

    Cons

Very sales oriented, and people like to steal your sales and cherry pick. When it wasn't their sale in the first place. Very disorganized store not professional at all.

    Advice to Management

Be more strict on your employees.

I have been working at Zumiez full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's a Fun place to work usually.

    Cons

The company puts so much money into so many random events that they could be investing in their hardworking people's pay checks at the store level instead.

    Advice to Management

    Provide clear and fair expectations.

I worked at Zumiez part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Had flexibility in terms of being able to freely walk around the store helping customers, changing the music, restocking shoes, or anything really as long as I was being productive and paying attention to customers that came in the store at all times.

    Cons

I would only work with one other employee every shift (an assistant manager) and this would sometimes get difficult if there were more than 3 different customers in the store at once.

    Advice to Management

Train your employees a little more to act professional and a little more mature. For me, I held this job while still in high school and it was almost fun going to work because I got to hangout in a skateboarding store and had to make sales and talk to customers for the most part. Now when I go into a Zumiez, it seems like most of the employees I encounter are working their first day or so and don't know too much about the products you have to offer.

    Pros

Free-spirited, chill vibes, no uniform, awesome music, and brands.

    Cons

No hours unless you're management, hire too many part-timers so you'll get less hours.

    I worked at Zumiez full-time

    Pros

The commissions are great. If you work hard you do well. Great place to connect with people and get a ton of discounts on product.

    Cons

The pay isn't great, but is made up in commissions if you hustle. Didn't really have GREAT employee benefits when I worked there. Can sometimes expect a lot for very little.

    Advice to Management

Step up your base pay to upper management. The perks and everything are fun, but most would rather have a steady income.
