    I worked at Zumiez full-time

    Pros

Casual dress code, flexible schedules in most departments, good health insurance and occasional free product giveaways.

    Cons

Pay is quite low in many departments and there are very few holidays recognized. The home office closely resembles a high school with all of the accompanying cliques you would expect to find. They often hire and promote based on "friendships" within departments, which can result in extremely underqualified people being put in to positions they are not ready for, even in high level management. The executive team has very little interest in the people working at the Home Office & it's very evident to the employees. There is also a high level of dishonesty from the management staff. It's not uncommon for management to lie and blame lower level employees within their departments for their own mistakes. The emphasis the company places on "competition" often leads to an backstabbing in order to get ahead. It is very common to be expected to handle a workload that would take 60 hours a week to complete, within a standard 40 hour week.

    Advice to Management

Learn to care about the employees working for you and treat them fairly. Or at least do a better job of faking it. If you are going to promote fairness and honesty as a major component of the culture, then lead by example and practice it. You should also take a serious look at the mid and high level management staff. The way some of them treat their staff is not only unprofessional, but borders on illegal. Haven't you noticed the increase in turnover? There used to be so many employees that had worked there for decades and now you're lucky if people make it a couple of years.
