I have been working at Zurich North America full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Generous PTO, work from home opportunities, great building, pay is ok, and really good 401k match. Conveniently in the suburbs for employees with families.

    Cons

Health insurance plan is garbage. Office politics are really bad. People really kiss their managers butt and it works for them. Managers are disconnected with their employees. Raises, performance reviews, and promotions are all just a popularity contest. Very rarely is risk taking and development rewarded. Expectations are ambiguous and unclear. Each manager has a different definition of what is considered “good work”....

I have been working at Zurich North America full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Salary is ok...not great but decent Benefits better than previous employers Headquarters are nice and modern Collaborative work spaces and good resources

    Cons

Very poor culture - stressful environment, unappreciative employees and managers, micromanagement and lots of politics and favoritism. My team in particular is definitely overworked and under appreciated. We also take so many surveys to voice our feedback but no action is ever taken. All done for the sake of doing it and so senior management looks good but no changes ever made.

    Pros

Newly established building, great people to work with/for, benefits received, ability to work remotely, freedom to make own schedule. Early summer hours and personal time for work life balance.

    Cons

Salary is not very competitive with competition, communication could use improvement, annual layoffs which seem to be on going making less confident of future.

I have been working at Zurich North America full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good benefits if you are a longer term employee. There is a pension plan but it is not worth much at all with changes made since 2007

    Cons

Unstable. Unending rounds of layoffs with no consistent logic, and offshoring of many jobs. This company will be much, much leaner in the future. Company is unable to grow in NA.

    Advice to Management

There will be no growth until diversification happens. Being only an insurer is a dead end. There are too many competitors who are better at the business.

I worked at Zurich North America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-Benefits -Work life balance (depending on department) -Community engagement is great

    Cons

-Very political -Morale is bad with all of the layoffs going on -Management out of touch with everyone else -Way too many layers -Headquartered in Schaumburg -Very little culture

    Advice to Management

You're laying off the wrong people...quit letting go high performers while keeping old, tenured people that are being overpaid while under contributing. You're doing all the wrong things when it comes to keeping young talent. Moving downtown could have been a huge step in freshening things up.

    Pros

Good non financial benefits, flex time, retirement fund, vacation days, new headquarters

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Make on boarding of the right candidates faster. On average, it takes 3 months to fill in a position, regardless if its internal or external candidate....
