I have been working at Zurich North America full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I stayed with my prior employer for quite a long time because I dreaded the process of attempting to find a new job. I only applied for a couple of positions before coming to work at Zurich, and I can say that this has been the easiest on-boarding experience I have ever had. I started with an initial phone interview where I was given an accurate description of the position, followed by an onsite interview, and then received an offer. Through this entire process Arianna, the person from the talent acquisition team that I was working with, stayed in touch with me through calls and text messages. I also felt comfortable joining the team after receiving calls from several members of the leadership team before my start date.

I work for a new area of operations in the company and our leadership has developed a strong team that has been afforded the opportunity to have an impact on the program that was being developed. Almost everyone I work with feels personally invested in the work we do every day. This is largely due to the support we receive from our leadership and the fact that everyone here actually fits in with the company culture. Since we were developing a new program there were some long hours and a lot of flexibility required - everyone from the top down worked together and I always felt appreciated, whether it be through a thank you card or a gift card as a thank you from management.

    Cons

While there is good work life balance, and there is a good bonus program, the health insurance benefits are high deductible health plans, not the greatest, but could be much worse.

Good benefits packs, pto days, jeans days, the people are good to work with, flexible hours which include summer hours.

I worked at Zurich North America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great branch office to work at- everyone works together together to get the job done. All friendly.

    Cons

The job has lots of extra side Jobs from other departments that you end up taking care of in order to get your job completed too. If you had only your job to do- it would be easier to keep up with the work load.

    Advice to Management

Make claims fill out their paperwork, and have billing do the special billing from the beginning and that would be easier for the Ua. Also have rating do all the rating period.

    Pros

Can be advancement, if you network well.

    Cons

Management culture is terrible. Depending on what position you are in, manager relationships vary. I have been in a couple different positions- management is not great. Also rare to get one that knows what their employees do. Training is terrible.

    Advice to Management

Be knowledgeable. Be fair to employees.

I have been working at Zurich North America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Zurich is a great place to get your foot into the door in the insurance industry and gain initial experience and knowledge, or to work towards the end of your career if you are less invested in upward movement within the company or the industry. My colleagues within my department were knowledgeable, professional, and cooperative. I worked for a manager who encouraged work/life balance, and this appears to be a trend throughout the company. Aside from the high deductible health plan, benefits are generally excellent.

    Cons

There was little room for upward movement, and requests to move laterally were not taken seriously. Additionally, there were limited training opportunities, and employees were not encouraged to develop new skills. The company culture is generally conservative and bureaucratic. Some managers are ineffective and/or play favorites, to the detriment of performance. Claims professionals were discouraged from promoting the company externally, and were generally under-valued by the business units.

    Advice to Management

Value all segments of the company, not just underwriting. Place more emphasis on quality of business written rather than quantity.
