I have been working at Zurich North America full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

As a newly hired employee -- with the company less than 3 months -- I have been incredibly impressed with the caliber of current employees and their willingness to assist with onboarding a new team member. The company is focused on making meaningful changes for customers and shareholders.

    Cons

The organization is more complex than anticipated, due in part to global and North America infrastructure.

    Advice to Management

Do your best to balance the needs of the employees with the continued focus on customer and shareholder value.

I have been working at Zurich North America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The Apprentice program offers a unique view of a large commercial insurance company. The program provides exposures to several different areas within the company that a person may not otherwise have. People that complete the program receive an Associate degree from Harper College that is paid for by Zurich, all while learning different jobs hands on . Zurich itself values its employees and has great benefits including a pension plan

    Cons

There are a lot of different departments and areas, without some guidance it may be difficult to understand the complexity of such a large company

I worked at Zurich North America full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great values, seemed pretty sincere and transparent with employees. Great pay and benefits. Lots of women in line & dept. management positions. Loved this job for 5 of the 9 years I was there.

    Cons

Senior Exec P&C management was essentially all let go in 2015, after 3rd quarter UW results. They had announced a commercial P&C growth mode after a couple years of expense reduction and layoffs (like many companies in that economy), but failed to manage the growth properly. Execs from Life division were brought in to manage P&C until they got things worked out. Resulted in about 20% US layoff 2015-2016, including some exceptionally good people.

    Advice to Management

Hindsight, but make sure you have the right steps in place to manage growth initiatives before you're 3 quarters into the year and it impacts so many people who didn't have direct underwriting responsibilities for putting bad business on the books

Amazing atmosphere, new modern building, opportunities for growth, learning while you earn, unlimited possibilities, great coworkers, amazing benefits, flex work.
