    Pros

Great work-life balance. Very accommodating with regard to family responsibilities. Flex work hours, they encourage you to work from home once a week. Great at training and providing industry expertise.

    Cons

Reorganization resulted in forced demotions/ 'promotion' without an increase in pay, and lay offs. Pay can be on the low end.

    Pros

The benefits offered are very nice. Benefits include generous pto, good medical plan with three levels to choose from and they provide 401k and a pension. Good community involvement.

    Cons

Best and most qualified workers are not rewarded. Promotions are political and there are many bad managers. Harassing environment is ignored even with repeated complaints by several employees about the same thing/person.

    Advice to Management

Should care about your mid to lower level workers more

I have been working at Zurich North America full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits if you are a longer term employee. There is a pension plan but it is not worth much at all with changes made since 2007

    Cons

Unstable. Unending rounds of layoffs with no consistent logic, and offshoring of many jobs. This company will be much, much leaner in the future. Company is unable to grow in NA.

    Advice to Management

There will be no growth until diversification happens. Being only an insurer is a dead end. There are too many competitors who are better at the business.

I worked at Zurich North America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent 401(k) and pension benefits. Summer hours. Nice facilities. Excellent recruiters.

    Cons

Buttoned down environment where everyone is offended by everything. Constantly changing processes despite perpetual talk about the need for process consistency. Micromanagement and frequent meetings to grill people about every aspect of their job. Favoritism in choice of vendors without any input from the people actually doing the work. Salaries well below the market rate with little to no flexibility. Sign on bonus policies that make it difficult to recruit people at certain times of the year and requires candidates to produce documentation that may not even exist. Poor firing decisions across the board.

    Advice to Management

: If you’re going to preach about consistency, be consistent. Don’t be so cheap on salaries if you want to hire the best and brightest. Consider revising your policy in regards to sign-on bonuses.
