I worked at Zurich North America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

active participation in the communities in which located. earnestly trying to support and grow first time and middle managers. beautiful new building with amenities.

    Cons

executive leadership team ability to make decisions, have a vision, demonstrate competence. strict adherence to performance curves in rating assignments. extreme variability in capable leadership. Ironically, poor insurance benefits.

    Advice to Management

stop hiring consultants. hire people who know how to lead (you have to know what makes a good leader) and who know how to do work. Understand that "diversity" means diversity of thought, too.

I worked at Zurich North America full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The benefits offered are very nice. Benefits include generous pto, good medical plan with three levels to choose from and they provide 401k and a pension. Good community involvement.

    Cons

Best and most qualified workers are not rewarded. Promotions are political and there are many bad managers. Harassing environment is ignored even with repeated complaints by several employees about the same thing/person.

    Advice to Management

Should care about your mid to lower level workers more

I worked at Zurich North America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent 401(k) and pension benefits. Summer hours. Nice facilities. Excellent recruiters.

    Cons

Buttoned down environment where everyone is offended by everything. Constantly changing processes despite perpetual talk about the need for process consistency. Micromanagement and frequent meetings to grill people about every aspect of their job. Favoritism in choice of vendors without any input from the people actually doing the work. Salaries well below the market rate with little to no flexibility. Sign on bonus policies that make it difficult to recruit people at certain times of the year and requires candidates to produce documentation that may not even exist. Poor firing decisions across the board.

    Advice to Management

: If you’re going to preach about consistency, be consistent. Don’t be so cheap on salaries if you want to hire the best and brightest. Consider revising your policy in regards to sign-on bonuses.

I have been working at Zurich North America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Employees are fun to work with, and very talented
    Great benefits
    New building is nice

    Cons

    Lots of bureaucracy
Location, for those who live in the city
Expense cuts have affected many and aren't going away

    Advice to Management

Recently, the CEO of Allianz gave an interview where he talked about how expense cutting is not a "strategy", and how companies need to retain employees during soft market cycles in order to excel during the hard cycles. I worry that these cuts will ultimately make Zurich less competitive in the marketplace for those of us who remain.

I worked at Zurich North America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Competitive benefits with medical, vision, and dental offered. Company matched 401k up to 6% of salary.

    Cons

Recently went to an evolving workplace where if you didn't have an assigned work space you were fighting for a space to work daily. The noise level could also be a disadvantage if people working in your area were constantly on the phone.

I worked at Zurich North America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Shorter commute for those who live close by and great new HQ. Flex work is a good thing

    Cons

Old school leadership in technology management, very closed mentality. Not a welcome place for new leaders and ideas. I find the organization very bureaucratic and slow to act.

    Advice to Management

Replace technology leadership from the top and all his directs. Please take a look at the org chart and see how bloated the organization is. Lot of redundancy (atleast 20% ) that is prohibiting speed to market and adding prohibitive cost to transformational efforts.
