    Pros

    Dogs. Free Food (carlsbad location has best food, Tracy is the greatest)

    Cons

    Zynga doesn't care about design as much as PM and data

    Advice to Management

    Please don't say Zynga is working towards invovation or is an inovative company because it is clearly not. With my time as a design intern here I saw how most design choices were actually made and I would call that inovation or design. The company should work on keeping all displines involved connected instead of isolating them. Design and Art often felt very disconnect to the games they were on, it felt like we were contributing a lot to the game but we were very distant from working with other aspects of the games development.

    Pros

    Excellent data tools, scale enables quick testing and learning, meritocracy (for the most part), opportunity to be creative

    Cons

    Leadership has always been shaky on the C-level. Company culture can be toxic - not based on collaboration, lack of transparency, crippling fear of failing.

    Advice to Management

    Form a strategy for how to win (make more money is not a strategy) and then make bold & hard decisions to get there.

    I have been working at Zynga full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Unexpectedly good work- life balance.
    -Great on- site benefits in the SF location compared with most traditional game developers (for now)
    -Free breakfast, lunch snacks, and drinks

    Cons

    -Layoffs and frequent cost- cutting measure are now the norm
    -MVP mentality and overly aggressive release cycles ensure poor quality and lackluster production values.
    -"New" game features are often reskins of successful features from previous games
    -Titles being developed in the SF studio have drastically dwindled (with Poker and WWF being the bulk of the development staff) so options to work on new projects there are extremely limited.
    -Poor stock performance

    Great opportunity to launch good products, you get good opportunity to innovate

    Cons

    Should be more agile being a gaming company, too slow sometimes in implementation from top to bottom

    Advice to Management

    Need sharper management and should be focused on operating each studio like a startup; fail fast learn fast in gaming

    Fun culture, great benefits, generally really nice people to work with

    Cons

    no work life balance, not enough staff to do all the work, no cohesive strategy for departments to work well together - not well unified. No strongly defined culture.

    Pros

    Worked with some really incredible and inspiring people and also pet some really great dogs! The food (which is all made fresh in the building by a full culinary staff) is absolutely incredible. Weekly happy hours also! Compensation was tailored to being able to live in the bay area, which was thoughtful.

    Cons

    Management is a bit tumultuous, causing some strain on the dev teams. A lot of new projects were cancelled and their people reassigned to many different teams. This caused some confusion and questionable morale.

    Advice to Management

    There are a lot of brilliant people at this company, so I would suggest listening to them and their new ideas. Also invest in them!

    Pros

    Benefits are off the hook! Great medical and dental. Many other benefits including pet insurance.

    Employee stock purchase plan.

    Open vacation policy.

    Cons

    If you want to make games, this is not the place. Great at buying other people's games but not coming up with original ideas.

    Current CEO is great at selling smoke and mirrors to investors at the cost of other people's careers. You are simply a number, not a person.

    There is a lot of wasteful spending. People are being laid off while corporate enjoys massages, brewery, personal trainers, and full 3 meals a day.

    Advice to Management

    Be a game company. Employees should feel creative and should be having fun. They should not feel enslaved by the almighty dollar, snubbing ideas to analytics and fearing layoffs due to your lack of innovation.

    Too many managers and executives! Trim there instead of trimming the talent that actually makes the product.
