    I worked at a i solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Company is very diverse and located in great places all over the country. Knowledge-sharing is encouraged so that employees on various contracts can benefit from one another. Coworkers are very friendly and supportive. Work-life balance is top tier, comp/flex time as needed and management is usually willing to work with you during unforeseen circumstances.

    Cons

Medical benefits seem to deteriorate over time. Company processes seem haphazard and could use some standardization between divisions.

    Advice to Management

The company is getting bigger, and knowledge-sharing is so important for success! Keep encouraging your employees to take the time to learn from one another across the country.

    Pros

Locally managed leadership cares about the customer and employees. Very interesting work with very smart people.

    Cons

Not much company wide vision or support. Divisions operate autonomously and collaboration is not integrated unless initiated by individuals. Strategic direction is lacking, but not impediment to success.

    Advice to Management

Centralize and standardize processes and formalize strategic direction.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Good employees that want to do the right thing.

    Cons

Horrible leadership team, CEO is non existent and lets other leaders run rough shot over employees. Turn-over is really high, highest in Human Resources which is always a telling sign.

    Advice to Management

Even in a "body shop" services model, employees matter. Listen to them and make decisions with data, not emotion. If you don't change you will not be successful winning new contracts.

    I worked at a i solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They're a federal contractor with a good rep. From an employee standpoint, if placed in the right situation and environment, you get to work on the most fun and interesting projects with some smart and great people.

    Cons

Company repeatedly fails to establish a feasible longterm vision and usually ends up reducing the scope or simply throws it out all together at the next meeting.

The vast majority of managers are former engineers who try to bring the same approaches that they found to be successful when they were lowly engineers/analysts into their managerial duties which doesn't work. They lack the skills needed to inspire the people under them and are able to hide that deficiency by simply being fortunate enough to have a good number of self-motivating employees to perform quality work.

Not much in the way of mobility or advancement. Your ability to network internally will help you to advance more than any accomplishment short of winning a new contract. Even moreso if you're on a team that lacks high visibility.

    I worked at a i solutions full-time

    Pros

    - Comparably less of a body shop
    - Great coworkers
    - Good overall reputation; Well received by the gov side

    Cons

    - Isolated bubble internally and externally
    - Asinine business development strategies
    - Unfair compensation and career advancement plan (if it actually exists in the gov contracting world). The highest level of performance (on the eval) is essentially a checkbox that requires winning a task order / contract, which is 1) not any engineer's or analyst's job description 2) way too difficult for a team that has no visibility

    Advice to Management

    - Be more transparent to employees
    - There are better ways of developing business than buying lunch
    - Create a practical incentive plan and realistic goals, the R in SMART goals for real

    I worked at a i solutions full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Start-up mentality, great coworkers, offices around the country, lots of internal hiring and ability to move around if desired, casual environment

    Cons

Opaque upper-level management, frequent business changes which are poorly communicated to employees, mobility within the company is largely only available if you want to step largely outside of your experience area

    Advice to Management

Work harder to inform employees of company decisions and invest in unilateral project management for the overhead divisions to break down stove-piping.

    Pros

    smart people to work with

    Cons

the manager on the project I was on was incompetent. Company has a sink or swim mentally, not the best place to start as a junior developer

    Advice to Management

Manage your employees better by providing a 360 review process and hiring better managers that didn't lead with intimidation

    Pros

Awesome projects to work on. a.i. solutions does flight dynamics work for NASA Goddard, a great place to start a career in flight dynamics. They are flexible with moving people around on projects to get the experience you are looking for to start a career. Hours are extremely flexible and you can wear jeans and a t-shirt to work.

    Cons

This company is on a gradual downhill slope. It used to be a small company with a great atmosphere which made up for the bellow market pay. However, every year the benefits and atmosphere have been slowly chipped away. You are expected to use your own time above the 40 hours they have committed you to NASA to do business development. Compensation is consistently below market. They have no program for bringing this up so make sure you get your money on the way in the door. There is no structure for promotion. You are either one of the large group of workers or you are the manager in charge of 17-20 of those workers. The company has their core values "Customer-Team-Company-Self", keep that in mind because they put you last on paper so do you really expect them to treat you well at every review. They cut prices for their customer, make sure the team is overworked to meet the customers demands at the lower price, then make you develop things for the company on your own time, then maybe, just maybe, you will get a little bit of self to work on and a pat on the back.

    Advice to Management

Engineers, although very analytical, are still human and don't like being told they need to fit to a numerical curve for compensation or need to make sacrifices for the betterment of the company. Spend some energy on focusing on the employee experience and less on making things cheaper for the almighty "customer".
