I have been working at belairdirect full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

High level of independence, little micromanagement (unless you are terrible).

Nobody is very intelligent, so I had no trouble dropping good impressions.

All upper upper management were fantastic. Mid-level....no.

    Cons

    Very poor employee review structure.

My manager would tell others not to use their phones, then do precisely that at her own desk.

The only 'constructive' feedback I got from my manager was that my average acquisition call length is too high, but they also encourage you to cross sell and quote home and auto in the same call. So for someone like myself who is outstanding at cross selling, the call length is longer, period. Consider the number of quotes per hour not the length of each call.

Nobody is very intelligent SO NOBODY KNOWS JACK about the actual operation of the business as a whole, unless you speak to the upper management. For example, the move to go paperless is great for the business and the environment, but when a client asks for all of the convoluted insurance policy wordings, they pretty much can't get it unless they talk to the right agent.

Training is very inconsistent across the offices, so there are agents who do not properly document and complete their work, so information is lost along with the clients trust.

    Advice to Management

Rethink how you provide feedback to agents. Simply saying "Your acquisition call length is too long" is foolish.

Consistency is very difficult to manage but this is a crucial area for belair right now.

I have been working at belairdirect full-time

    Pros

On the subway line. By far the best part of the job is being near many bars.

    Cons

Treated as a salary as opposed to a human being. Benefits recently trimmed. Pay does not match workload. Stock option recently changed to prevent employees from taking money out of stock. Subpar management from top to bottom. Team leaders are known to omit facts. Was told my salary increased however manager never advised me that the salary increase fell through.

    Advice to Management

Running your employees consistently at 110% can only work for a short period of time. Morale is already low, it is bound to backfire. Does not take an MBA to realize this.

I worked at belairdirect full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - great benefits
    - work environment was great
    - fitness subsidy

    Cons

    - management doesn't seem to know what they're doing, since some of them only got to their positions because they knew someone inside the corp
    - performance reviews are said to be based on numbers however, the managers can actually change the numbers against you
    - life outside of work impacts your ability to be promoted
    - hard work and perseverance are met with scepticism and auditing
    - some managers are incapable of doing their jobs, due to them not giving a flying crap about the people who work under them

    Pros

Great working conditions, good social benefits and excellent organization! They are very flexible and helpful. They also have amazing good values and offer a lot of opportunities to develop yourself.

    Cons

I see no real cons to working there.

  9. "Terrible management"

I worked at belairdirect full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great co-workers. This is the only positive thing about working here.

    Cons

Terrible middle management. Too much favouritism. If you speak up about their questionable practices, be prepared to be thrown out. Very low salaries. Supervisors admonish you for going to the washroom if you go more than once in the whole day. Its suffocating. They throw out people who speak up or who have strong moral values.

    Advice to Management

Higher manay should make middle management accountable for all their bizarre actions.

I have been working at belairdirect part-time

    Pros

The company makes efforts to be a good employer. They offer full benefits, competitive compensation, and constantly have different employee engagement contests and events. The work environment is mostly friendly.

    Cons

You are in a position where you have to speak with happy and angry customers on a daily basis. Even if some rules seem unfair, you need to follow them. Your every second in the office is policed and they measure every aspect from your efficiency, to sales, to underwriting. A lot of people have gone on short-term disability due to stress from the job. They need to make sure enough people are on the phones to answer calls, so you have very limited options for taking time off.

    Advice to Management

Be more aware of the stress related to the job. Make resources and support more visible. Create a training program for your team managers, since many of them seem to have minimal background acting as a manager, and it shows.

    Pros

Management really puts in the time and effort to make you a competent employee and trust your judgement when it comes to decisions with how to handle different situations, co-workers are fantastic and really make the job even more fun to come to everyday, growth in terms of promotion and salary are both there for you if you are willing to put in the work

    Cons

A bit more support can be helpful on the job sometimes when it becomes very busy

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up
