I have been working at benefitexpress full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The CEO of benefitexpress has changed since most of the previous reviews. While there are still some vestiges of the previous, more toxic culture, it's clear the new leadership team is working hard on changing that. The company focuses on promoting from within, which makes it easy to stay and grow with the company. It's also possible to move departments if you'd be better suited for another role. I like my job and feel appreciated within it.
They've also mentioned training coming this year, which I think will help a lot.

    Cons

Your experience can depend a lot on your department. Management styles vary widely. Hopefully this will change with the new management training, but for now, still a con.
The health insurance options aren't great/are more expensive than other companies.

    Advice to Management

Follow through on your promises, and the company will continue to get better.

I have been working at benefitexpress full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people here are great and there are a lot of very dedicated and talented people backing you. However, you have to know how to ask the right questions to get what you need.

    Cons

The working environment is chaotic and dysfunctional. There is an extreme lack of defined standards and processes. There is little to no training or guidance available, so for new hires or those recently promoted, prepare to be thrown in the deep end.

On the technology side, the system is unreliable and glitchy. The amount of time spent explaining to a client why a problem or system error occurred (that you literally have no control over) is staggering.

    Advice to Management

Take steps to provide training and guidance. Define expectations. Set your employees up for success.

    Pros

Some of the employees and the fun committe

    Cons

Pay is low once insurance kicks in you cannot afford to live on your own. Company seems to target individuals example worked for the company for 3 years made one mistake no write up just terminated employment. Best part is went and filed a claim against the company and won my case. Management has no management skills. If you are tight with certain people they put a word in you get promoted over someone who has experiance.

    Advice to Management

Stop choosing employees to like and be fare. Don't penalize an associate who has been dependable and let one who is not dependable stay.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at benefitexpress full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

A few nice people. They want more positive things but there aren't any. An interesting dress code being totally casual.

    Cons

Inconsistent, unprofessional, unfair. Zero legitimate human resources person. Have to fax confidential medical information to HR but the fax in the CEO/owners office! Horrendous system technology and borderline illegal way of charging clients to fix issues that were actually made internally. Zero integrity. Surprised this company is still in business.

Everyone is related to one another in some way or another. It is a very toxic environment.

Gives zero constructive feedback and has HR terminate people when the family is on vacation.

    Advice to Management

Listen. Train. Accept opinions that aren't from family.

    Pros

Rewarded if you work hard and are dedicated. Don't apply if you are just looking to slack off and collect a check.

    Cons

Need to let the management have more power and responsibility. Many times I need to wait for my manger's manager to return from a trip to get an answer on a quote.

I worked at benefitexpress full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fantastic people. Good compensation, good benefits. Nice and usually fun environment. They do a good job of making employees feel appreciated.

    Cons

Since the company founder is the CEO, there is somewhat authoritarian, sort of a "my way or the highway" style of leadership. Differing views or independent thinking is not exactly welcome.

    Advice to Management

Listen. There are some good people with good ideas there.

    Pros

The only reason to work here is if you have no other possible options. Even then I would advise people to steer clear of this company.

    Cons

Senior management expects you to work free overtime during high volume months and then during slow periods are unwilling to allow you to leave early. I know emplyee's who in November have been told they can't use vacation time before the end of the year that they will lose. Raises are next to impossible to achieve and when you are lucky enough to get one it is a slap in the face.Over the last several months over half of the experienced staff has left due to horrific wages and rude senior management. This company also reaks of nepotism.

    Advice to Management

Remember that just because people leave doesn't mean employees and former employee's stop talking to each other. All the things you put your former employee's through everyone who currently works for you finds out about. This is part of the reason for all the departures there.

    Pros

Part of a team, if you are good you get promoted and rewarded. They let you be a problem solver and take your ideas at heart and try to implement when feasible. No one is perfect but management has their heart in it. I even know of some employees who have received help financially (outside of salary) and did not even ask for it. I feel part of a team and needed.

    Cons

The company is small so if you don't produce, call in sick alot or mis deadlines ( as some people do) management will notice it. Not a place you can hide.

    Advice to Management

    Thank you.
