Very ethical and transparent in an industry where this is not the norm
    Great product

Because it's a smaller company, there's less opportunity for advancement.

    Pros

Some truly smart and innovative people; founders are part of the company

    Cons

Toxic work environment; poor leadership; competitive; constant power struggles; was laid off with one week of severance and 10 days of health care; future is uncertain and there is no exit strategy

    Advice to Management

Don't promote people based on tenure, promote people because they're qualified. Recognize people who do good work and don't tolerate people who hurt the culture

I have been working at dataxu full-time

    Pros

Work on cool technology, constantly doing the newest thing. Do your 2-3 years here, get great technical resume builders, then move on. Great place to start early in career as you will learn tons technically.

    Cons

Half of management has no clue how to manage or grow employees - especially the senior half. There is virtually no career growth aside from "learn technologies". No feedback on how to grow to next level, and virtually no chance at promotion beyond senior engineer. Senior management values time-in-seat more than productivity. Most of the senior people* who have been "promoted" lately are widely known to be poor performers OR people who cannot work with others to save their lives (some almost to the point of lawsuit bad) and were "promoted" out or senior management was desperate for a warm body to fill a role and needed someone "senior" who wasn't needed where they were.

Recent cuts in benefits and company perks is a downer.

Expect to work lots of nights - because your manager overcommitted on a project (again) and now you have to do 2 weeks of work in 1.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring horrible managers. Seriously. Bad managers cause people to leave. When those bad managers leave, don't just promote the next most senior engineer - most of them have no business managing people. Only put those with the right skills into management positions. Its ok to leave a position unfilled for a couple months to get a good person in. Of course, that would assume you could hire a good manager. Career growth is more than just learning the next technology, its how to become a better engineer and a better leader.

Also, diversity means more than just not-white - it means lots of *different* ethnicities and a serious effort to work on the gender imbalance. When everyone comes from the same place, the ideas produced are not as good.

    Cons

Taking too long to get to an exit. Teams are tired and Ad Tech is not going up in value. Find a buyer.

    Pros

    - Cool Technology: AdTech space provides ample leaning & innovation opportunities
    - Work Life Balance
    - Responsive Frontline Engineering Management
    - Free Weekly Lunch
    - Transparency

    Cons

    - Senior Engineering Management & Leaders lack courage
    - Bangalore office is in bit of disarray due to weak leadership on the ground
    - Bangalore office location is not well thought out (hard to commute and no parking)
    - Recent Layoff though may be good for profit margin but reveal cracks in the commitment (currently in hiring freeze)
    - Vision is not well articulated, internally or externally
    - Transparency with hollow messaging eroding confidence

    Advice to Management

    - Need Vision that is credible

I have been working at dataxu full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-To me, the biggest pro is how transparent the company is, both with our clients and internally. The CEO shares exactly how we're doing financially each month and it doesn't feel like anyone is keeping secrets.
-The training and onboarding process is extensive and makes you feel like you truly do belong.
-There are ample opportunities to grow if you work hard.
-Everyone is incredibly friendly. When I started I immediately felt welcome, which doesn't happen everywhere.
    -Pay is competitive.
-They take employees' needs into consideration (i.e. the ping pong table in Boston, standing desks, free lunch every week)
-The product offering is strong. Programmatic is a tough industry to be in and our engineering team does everything it can to set us apart.
-Sales Kickoff is a great way to boost morale and bring the entire company together.

    Cons

The only con I've found is that they don't offer 401K matching, but I believe it's in the works.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing

    Pros

I love the people I work with, both in region and across the country. Allows for a great work/life balance. Pretty flexible as far as hours/being in the office goes as long as you are getting your job done. Pay is great, benefits are solid. I love working here.

    Cons

I have nothing bad to say about DataXu
