      Amazing Company

      Pros

The culture of dress barn, wanting to help women feel good about what they are wearing. The employees are amazing, and employee discount is good too.

      Cons

Great benefits if you are in management, like bonuses every month. Salary is not the best, employees who are not in management make more because they have been there longer, even though they don't have as much responsibilities.

Fun but frustrating place to work

      Pros

The employee discount is very generous, at 40%. It is generally a fun place to work, that is fairly flexible with the scheduling. The work life balance is pretty good since they will do their best to give you the days off that you request. You get to know many of the regular customers, developing relationships with them.

      Cons

Different stores have different policies regarding coupons, special orders, VIP parties, outreach, and a multitude of other things. Individual stores are now "empowered" to make some of their own decisions, which has created animosity between stores. One store will say yes, the other no. Everyone is confused. There are never enough hours in payroll to have enough people scheduled. Most of the time there are only 2 people working. It is impossible to watch the entire store with only 2 people, which can be a loss prevention issue. The new policy is that everything is rung under one of the managers that is on duty, supposedly to make sure that they are coaching employees to do their best. With a couple of the managers, the part time people do much of the work and they get the credit.

A retail job you can actually enjoy

      Pros

Good managers who really care about their employees and treat the store staff as a team/family. The company wants all employees to be involved, to share their opinions and ideas, and to understand how the business runs and take ownership of their own store. No high-pressure sales or competition among coworkers for commissions. Very generous employee discount. Overall, customers tend to be pretty pleasant to work with.

      Cons

Biggest complaint is that Customer Service tends to take the customer's side, even when they're clearly wrong, and doesn't actually support to the in-store employees. This isn't a daily problem but it undermines our authority when customers think they can get whatever they want if they just call Customer Service to complain about us for doing things like not taking an expired coupon. Customer Service tells us to honor the expired coupon, and then everyone else in the store suddenly wants to use the expired coupon too. It hurts our store's profits and makes us look stupid.

      Great Atmosphere

      Pros

This is a wonderful company to work for part time! The customer base is wonderful and the organization does a good job of keeping all employees whether full time or part time trained and part of the team. They have a great employee discount program that can be used across the brands of Ascena.

      Cons

Monetary raises are sparse and other than the great employee discount there are hardly any other perks or serious raises. Because of this many part time associates are simply there for the employee discount.

      Pros

Empowerent to run your store like it is your own business. Great benefits. Accrument of vacation time so you are always earning more. Great employee discount at a lot of different brands.

      Cons

Sometimes there is a major lack of communication from the higher ups in the company. Can feel like you are getting a lot of mixed messages. Lately the company has not been performing financially. And we are seeing it play our at the store level and it can get a little extra stressful at times.

      Pros

      1) The Employee Discounts were Great! 2) It is a small store so you have a chance to interact with customers and build a good relationship to create repeat shoppers. 3) The schedule was flexible and was able to attend school and work.

      Cons

      1) The store manager could not make a decision without the assistant manager. 2) The amount of hours were not based on performance but if you were friends with the management. 3) The store management would leave store short staff for hours and say that they are researching surrounding stores sales and floor plan. 4) Management would call and change your schedule because they wanted to leave or come in late, and use the excuse that the store was over or under hours.
