I have been working at eBay full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fulfilling roles, with an opportunity to make a real impact on the livelihood of millions and the global economy. Product managers are getting broad scope and responsibilities and are empowered to make decisions and drive execution.

    Cons

A meaningful emphasis on process at times, can tip the scale towards showing things are done more than getting things done.

I have been working at eBay full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Normally treating people good (some special cases are excluded) on compensation and benefits; work life balance is ok comparing to startups and other companies;
    and listening to concerns from employees based on quarterly engagement survey ;

    Cons

Sometimes lots of politics; diversity looks not good (majority of employees are Indian); Talkative people (not people who focus on working and delivering) got more opportunities

    Advice to Management

Focus on business, technologies, innovation and people who really help these stuffs

I have been working at eBay as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Big company, some see that as a big plus. Cultural values are solid and well-meaning. Lots of spots on campus to get away when you need a little fresh air, but work space is far from ideal (so you'll need it).

    Cons

Being on site every day is expected. It's especially difficult when you're in an open-office environment, where it's loud, distracting and ultimately, counterproductive. Seems so old school to expect smart, seasoned professionals to be tethered to what's basically a glorified lunch table - especially if your job requires major focus (most do!). It's also a complex company, where nothing is easy. Getting things done, figuring out who does what, and finding answers is a constant exercise in frustration.

    Advice to Management

Find out what the data says about "open office environments" vs. private work spaces. Support telecommuting. Trust employees to do the right thing, even when they're not on campus (isn't that what the founders believed? That people are basically good?). Your employees will be happier and gain better work/life balance if you give them more freedom. A new approach will likely spark the bold ideas you claim to crave.

I worked at eBay full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great exposure to technology and use cases related to big data. It helped me learn the basics and prepare myself for my next job

    Cons

It's a brand that's going sideways and if you're on the business side, you want to be thinking hard about how you move to you're next role.

I worked at eBay full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

the pay/stock/bonus is competitive, as are their benefits. Many opportunities for lateral movement.

    Cons

very limited opportunities for promotion or management. The joke is: "the only way to get promoted at eBay is to leave the company then come back" which is sad. Goals are rarely met, resources are ALWAYS scarce, re-orgs occur several times a year, and layoffs happen often. Managers are not trained very well, they're often just top performers who are given a group of people to manage, which we all know rarely turns out well. Lots of churn as a result, which contributes to a culture that is not very firmly set in principles or values, which contributes to a lot of short-term ladder climbing.

I have been working at eBay full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent community of employees, good perks, strong commitment to job satisfaction, great rotational programs

    Cons

Company needs to start thinking bigger, currently slow and overly cautious.. have to get out of the retail mindset and get into the Silicon Valley mindset!

    Advice to Management

    Be bold! Break stuff!

I have been working at eBay as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very healthy work-life balance. Employees in general are a little more mature than some of eBay's peer companies, which makes for a calmer, more focused work environment.

    Cons

Not quite as progressive as some of other SV companies in terms of perks, amenities, salaries, etc.

I worked at eBay full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    1) Reasonable life-work balance.
    2) Convenient location for people living in Willow Glen, Los Gatos, Campbell and Cambrian Area.

    Cons

Many talented people left to Apple, Google, Facebook etc. and now there is a disproportionately high number of incompetent people. Company has troubles attracting talent. This is especially true about engineering.

    Advice to Management

Interviewing process is not formalized. Very poor performers get through.
