Being able to be creative, and a lot of work keeps you busy and work goes by quickly. The people are terrific to work with.

The long hours can be stressful. There are a lot of high priority projects and it gets difficult to decipher between what is most important.

    Advice to Management

Take a path and stick to it. Management often waivers.

    Pros

The people and the environment are the best reason to work for eBay. They have some of the top services in the industry for employes, which includes: cafe, gym, outdoor grounds, cubicles, computers and support staff. The company cares about your development and success at the company. They offer 20 -40 classes per quarter for self development, which is applicable to any company. The company is open to idea generation and completely supports unconventional thinking.

    Cons

Competition and economy effects on the stock market seem to be the biggest downsides of working with eBay. The bay area is competitive and people leave for the next hot idea constantly.

    Advice to Management

Keep leading us with a direct and decisive attitude.

    Pros

The culture that management creates is a very comfortable and relaxed place. The mangement has always encouraged me to promote myself and therefore I have been promoted 3 times in less than 2 years.

    Cons

There are always a lot of changes on the site, they are for the better, but its hard to keep up sometimes.

    Advice to Management

None, I really enjoy working at eBay!!

    Pros

The projects are fun and the job keeps changing. I enjoy working with the people around me. The office is well designed to help boost productivity, you don't feel like you are trapped in a cube farm. The food is a little on the pricey side but it is tasty and well made. The compensation is above average and the company looks like it will keep on growing which is good for everyone.

    Cons

The crazy and sometimes chaotic environment. A lot of email and meetings but there are people who will try to help you out and reduce the distractions.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing the good work in trying to expand the company.

    Pros

    Technical challenges with real-world impact.

    Cons

There is a lot of process in place which makes the company less agile.

    Advice to Management

The teams need more flexibility. there needs to be a way that to circumvent process for the 20% cases in which their should be an exception. This requires trust in the decision makers that are closer to the ground.

    Pros

great mission, great value system. The people at eBay are uniformly great (yes there are the odd exceptions), but the caliber of the average eBayer is far above average. People want to do the right thing. The Whitman campus cafeteria serves organic food. The other campus has a fantastic cafeteria serving asian food.

    Cons

Its a complex business and it isn't always easiest to get things done. There is too much bureaucracy and too much interference from corporate.

    Advice to Management

stay focused on the long term and on the customer. Some good changes so far - but it is very important to stay the course.

    Pros

The eBay environment is warm and friendly and the company does a great job of trying to keep things "human". The benefits and salary are competitive with an attractive 4 week sabbatical after 5 years of service. Employees are encouraged to be true owners of their deliverables.

    Cons

The company has a huge list of to-do's but lacks the right staffing to stay agile. Work-life balance will always be a challenge. The company priorities are cloudy across the enterprise and across the portfolio of companies.

    Advice to Management

Hire great talent. Great individual contributors does not always equal great people management - hire and promote well-rounded individuals.
