I have been working at eBay (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I am my own boss; my hours are as many or as few as I need them to be. I can take time to cook, clean and care for my home when needed.

    Cons

I am at work most of the time. There is no paid time off and I am responsible for my own benefits.

    Advice to Management

Work smarter rather than harder. Buy less but better quality merchandise. Acquire more clip hangers and get organized

I have been working at eBay full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great team. eBay hires solid people at the individual contributor level. All my co-workers are hard working, intelligent, sharp developers. There's no lack for talent.

eBay also has above average compensation and awesome work-life balance. It's a healthy place to work.

    Cons

The tech stack. Ebay's technology is years behind it's major competitor - Amazon. It's getting more current, but that takes time. There has been a solid push at the company for the last year or so to revamp old processes, and we're seeing a lot of that work paying off.

Middle management seems to lack direction at times. Upper management has a pretty clear vision for company growth, but middle management often changes the approach to achieve their goals.

    Advice to Management

Continue investing in technology. Grow by giving your engineers the best tools and opportunities to create great products.

I have been working at eBay full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Exciting technical experience, things are moving fast and the ability to get things done is rewarded. Telecommuting is an option in some groups, and encouraged in others. eBay is a global company so there isn't a singular view on any approach.

    Cons

There is a "get it done at all costs" feeling which can negatively impact quality and foundational activities. You have to be protective of your work/life balance because the org operates 24/7 and if you're ready to engage someone is there to keep you busy. The pay is good, but not the top range great.

    Advice to Management

At the top most layer be consistent, be ethical, be effective. At the mid range and down, communicate and collaborate. Stepping on each other is not the way to build a strong company.

    Pros

Lots of growth opportunities for people with right talent. Company going through a shift with more emphasis on better technologies and architecture.

    Cons

For those that are not self driven, career growth could get slow

    Pros

Compensation, Office culture, work life balance, trainings and travel opportunity

    Cons

compensation can be good if u joined in past couple of years. For interns coverting to full time it could be plus and minus. The compensation is too good to say no but once you are in the company the immediate management is not good enough to train the intern or new grad. Majority of the people are highly experienced and are not willing to give responsibilities to young minds easily.
another major con is layoffs. They dont hesitate to even layoff <1 old new hire.

    Advice to Management

Management lacks vision. There are very few teams which has a proper vision and goal. Internal product teams are pretty much lacking vision and are just doing the same thing over and over. Waste of money and talent.

I have been working at eBay as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

I worked in the Seattle office, so I don't know if this is universal (given that a large majority of eBay's employees are in California/San Jose), but eBay's attitude to work/life balance is fantastic. They don't permit slacking, but what hours you work are largely up to you, and working from home is almost always an option. The horror stories you hear about tech companies basically requiring overwork are not here, at all.

    Cons

In some ways, eBay feels like it's still finding itself as a technology company. It's been a commerce company for a long time, but many of the more cutting edge technologies are newly come or not here yet. This provides a lot of opportunity, but sometimes it can also make the company feel vaguely behind. eBay is very on top of changing this, though, and I suspect it won't last.
