  1. "An imperfect company with some good opportunities"

I have been working at eTeacher part-time

    Pros

As someone with a Master's degree in Biblical Hebrew, my employment prospects were not stellar. Working at Eteacher gave me an opportunity to use and develop both my language skills and my teaching skills. The number of hours were flexible, and the pay, while not stellar, was good for someone just out of graduate school. It was a great thing to put on my resume.

    Cons

The biggest problem with this job from the teacher's end is the "industrial" model of teaching employed. All of the lesson plans and materials are prepared for you, and all teachers use the same materials. This is a pro and a con at the same time. On the positive side, you don't have to spend as much time doing class preparation and curriculum development. On the negative side, you don't get a lot of flexibility in what you teach, and more importantly, the lower class prep time justifies a lower pay-rate. The curriculum is not flawless either. There are a number of gaps in the material and the order in which the material is presented is not always ideal. Your experience teaching the students themselves will likely be mixed. Most are adult learners with day jobs, and many of them realize within a few weeks that they've gotten in over their heads and will drop out. Others will simply not do the work and drag the class down, and since they are not receiving grades, there is not much way to motivate them. Recently, students receiving academic credit were integrated with the non-credit students, which was a big mistake in my opinion, since the level of motivation of academic and non academic students usually varies widely. In addition, there was an administrative change from a model in which teachers received 50% more pay for teaching academic classes to a model in which they simply receive a rather pitiful bonus for administering exams and grading assignments.

I have been working at eTeacher part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The best online languages school in the world, no doubt. eTeacher is a company that is fun to work for, and learn with. I took two courses I got for free from the managers (any employee can take free courses), total value of over 2000 dollar, in a addition to good payment and generous bonus system.

    Cons

Can't think of any. The company is doing a great job, and the people working for it contributing to the family-atmosphere.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. It seems there is always who to talk to if you need help, and the kindness is evident in all you do.

I worked at eTeacher full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I worked in eTeacher for 4 years and enjoyed every second of it.
    > I had flexible shifts and it was a great workplace to combine with school or other commitments.
    > The salary and bonuses were high.
    > The working environment is great - you meet people from different cultures and backgrounds. There are a lot of after work activities, nights out and so on.
    > The managers are very nice and helpful and know how to appreciate a work well done.
    > I was promoted a couple of time to different positions in the call center and had a lot of new challenges.
    > There was a lot of place to initiatives and creativeness.
    > I learned a lot during my work.

eTeacher is the best place to develop, learn and grow when you are at your beginning.

    Cons

eTeacher sometimes can feel as a small company even though it grew big, there are some procedures that should be changed and adjusted.

    Advice to Management

I would advice to keep maintaining the great atmosphere in the work place.

I have been working at eTeacher full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

eTeacher has varying positions- From advanced Marketing positions, teachers, financial admin staff, normal HQ staff to call-centre representatives (sales, service, tech support) and more. This enables a lot of options to "find yourself" and to advance as you prove your capabilities.
eTeacher also invests greatly in business intelligence tools, enabling staff to expand their knowledge base about their work in specific, and business in general.

    Cons

When I started in eTeacher a few years ago the training process wasn't very smooth, so it took a while to get settled in. However it seems things are different now and the training process is quite professional.

    Advice to Management

Keep investing in staff as you do- The yearly events + continous activities are great motivators & give everybody a chance to enjoy one another's company outside of work hours too :-)
