I have been working at eharmony full-time

    Pros

Most people here are nice and hardworking. We're well fed and it's never boring

    Cons

While it's never boring, a lot of it is due to the flip flopping of execs. They hire bad people on their own and push out good ones. CEO is grumpy and dismissive and changes his mind frequently about trivial things that put tech and other projects in limbo. Other execs who have been here awhile don't contribute anything and probably wouldn't be hired anywhere else. There are many execs here who act as glorified assistants to the ceo. Promotions are also incredibly arbitrary. Many higher ups were promoted solely on the fact that the former CEO "liked them".

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging. LISTEN to the people who actually work here. Stop saying you're busy when you're really just on Facebook all day.

I worked at eharmony full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    The mission of the company.

    Cons

I don't even know where to begin. We can talk about metrics and spin them any way we want but the ultimate metric, which is cash, has been dropping fast over the last 2 years. While the leader is a good talker and probably has good intentions, the lack of experience as a CEO is too apparent. The company is in a death spiral; People are leaving, the company can't take any risks with new incentives or reinvent the product since there is no cash. Its too late to replace the CEO, by the time a new CEO is found the company will be out of money.

    Advice to Management

Its the product, its always been the product. We can't continue to sit there adding bells and whistles to an outdated product. We didn't evolve fast enough and will now become another case study unfortunately.

I worked at eharmony full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Location good for dining options

    Cons

4-5 rounds of layoffs so far this year. Half the Executive team have left the company. Good talent (whatever is left) is leaving for greener pastures. The CEO is a 1st time CEO with no experience at all. The business is getting disrupted fast.

    Advice to Management

    Too late for any advice

I worked at eharmony full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Free snacks, some good people.

    Cons

Cliquish management and senior engineering braintrust, loudest/most senior voice wins. Projects spun up and thrown away willy-nilly as management grasps at new ideas to keep product alive. If you are an engineer be prepared to be on call 24/7, forget about work-life balance, all due to creaking infrastructure that breaks daily. Good luck getting sleep because you will be expected to answer emails at 3 am. Ancient technology struggling to get along with the new world.

I have been working at eharmony full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice people, although some of the best were just let go (we've had lay-off after lay-off)
Convenient location - easy commute for most

    Cons

Product is run like it's 2005 with no leadership and no vision. PMs just pick random projects, make dev work on them for 6 months, and then wait to find out what the data says - they all turn out horrible and we scrap the code.
Tech is very outdated and slow
No growth or learning opportunities. I've actually un-learned working here
    No innovation
    No leadership
They just promote (men) with little to no experience in leadership roles

    Advice to Management

Stay up-to-date on how to run a tech company in 2017. Our competition is crushing us because our product looks like it's from the 90s.

I have been working at eharmony full-time

    Pros

Free (cheap) lunches / breakfast on some days
(Sometimes) interesting projects ... but that'll not be the case in a month or so
Can't think of any more Pros

    Cons

Top management have no idea how to get out of the deeeeeep trouble they have gotten into and the only solution they are able to find is to fire employees to save money in near term
Company is in worst hands in probably last 15 years of the history
Wasted tons of money to come up with Elevated which no one uses / no one will use and the current eH employees have to suffer because of that

    Advice to Management

If you want to reduce the workforce, please do it once and for all. 5 rounds of layoffs does not send right signal and employees are demoralized and demotivated than ever.
Also stop delivering motivational speeches to hide the real issues

I worked at eharmony full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Talented individual contributors
    - Weekly lunch
    - free snacks and soft drinks
I worked for 2 years before I decided to move on . Over all I liked my colleagues and other team members .

    Cons

Bad management and recent clean up of higher management only made it worse . They need a whole new management to clean up the whole mess . Building new UI won't get any new customers . There's a need for changing the business needs to address 2016 dating problems . None of the top leaders seems to understand that. Technology is ancient and with no vision and leadership ,Eharmony is ready for the sinking very soon

    Advice to Management

Fire all managers or directors in the technology group and hire some best in the business .Most of these managers has been staying for ever ,with zero or little contributions to make Eharmony better . Introduce a 360 degree feedback and make manager earn their rating performance by working for the team like in many other product company . That will clean up some of them

    Pros

free food - unhealthy and really fattening but free and lots of it. good work life balance.

    Cons

Management is really unqualified and completely out of touch. So backwards and not innovative at all. Management is a great place to be at eHarmony if you are mediocre and was to find your forever home. You can do a bad job and stay there forever if you are in management.

    Advice to Management

Have employees do an annual review of you and be held to some type of performance standard. Managers review employees annually but the managers never get feedback from the people who report to them. Many times the people the managers report to have no idea how the manager is actually performing.

I have been working at eharmony full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Happy with salary and benefits. They subsidize a gym membership and cater lunch every Wednesday. Most of the employees are fine to work with though there are some difficult people. Aside from working with good colleagues, I've also made good friends. The company has a noble cause of helping single men and women find their ideal significant other.

    Cons

Meetings feel too abundant. Certain groups of people do seem clique. With the recent departure of the last two C-level executives and the promotion of two new ones, maybe there is a glimmer of hope for the company. The CSO, who has been with the company for years wearing other titles, should be removed as well. I'm not convinced the new C-level executives really know anything about running a company. It surprises me eHarmony has been up and around this long. The new CPO does seem to be more realistic about the current trajectory of the company so maybe he can turn it all around.
