    Pros

The staff are friendly, hard-working and are usually into music, films and tv. Which is what attracted me in the first place

    Cons

Too many different jobs to do. In one say I could be cashing up, serving customers, re-price stock, working in stockroom, pulling stock for return and putting out new stock. The company is effectively at the beck and call of its suppliers who send in way too much stock

    Advice to Management

Slim down the number of tasks. Get back to basics of serving customers and putting out stock. Cut down on re-pricing and cut way back on stock orders

    Pros

The shop floor workers are approachable and friendly to work with
There is a decent discount on all products within the store

    Cons

    Poor management
Lack of communication between management and staff
Favouritism with certain staff members for having a higher KPI than others
    Holidays are allocated without choice
    Zero bonuses or any rewards
Zero chance for progression within the store.

    Advice to Management

Focus on communication amongst management and staff
Managers need to work together with supervisors instead of belittling them
Quit treating your staff as if they're easily replaceable
Favouritism with certain staff members isn't going to make you more likeable
You're not entitled to allocate staffs holidays to make it easier on yourself
Listen to what your staff are saying instead of attacking them for speaking out about any issues.

I have been working at hmv part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people working there are probably the best reason why to work for this company. Staff is friendly, outgoing, and always ready to go out after work

    Cons

There are barely any pay increase or even indexation to the cost of living. We are overworked and underpaid. Unless you are part of the full-time crew you have no benefits, no sick days, and no personal days. Employee discounts are not really worth it either.

    Advice to Management

Upper management rarely engages with floor associates. It would be to their advantage to pick our brains as to how the company could get better. The company hires students who could use their academic knowledge, however, egos get in the way and we just become numbers. Shame....
