    Pros

The business gives you higher level control of responsibility and you can actually get rewarded by your managers for good solid work with praise.

    Cons

The locals outside of the office. There are a lot shady characters on Hollywood that stalk you after hours, both male and female.

    Advice to Management

Move the office to a more family friendly location like Burbank or Glendale, or the Valley.

    Pros

When deciding on how to entice employees the management went the cheapest route: offer free bagels and fruit in the mold infested break room twice a week, albeit not enough to feed the starving masses... and free socks in lieu of holiday bonuses.

    Cons

Everything HR and management conspired to do must had been etched into stone during the 90’s before they really had a clue what the internet was, it’s importance to the world, and more importantly, to your productivity. Sounds pretty odd when discussing a “tech company” in Los Angeles, right? Simple things like competitive analysis are impossible due to the “advanced security” blocking most websites. Satellite offices have secretly bought broadband internet to bypass these issues but for the main office you’re stuck in the prehistoric times. Get used to drawing pictures on whiteboard “walls” painted in 2x2 blocks in hallways. Need a break from the madness of your neighbor coughing all over you due to the lack of cubicles and basic privacy or German death metal screaming through headphones of developers 20 feet from your unguarded desk? Good luck. The break room comfortably sits 4, but is often packed with 12, on broken tables stuffed between vending machines and a sink designed for a compact airplane.

It’s hard to ignore that this behemoth has outlived it’s time. It invented digital faxing. Nothing more. Then went on to buy out every one of its failing fax competitors to take the majority of the market. That would be a success by all means had the world not continued to evolve with the invention of email, messaging, cloud platforms, etc. In 2018, eFax is still j2’s crown jewel... and it’s cultural importance is shrinking.

To offset the falling value of its core fax business, j2 has managed to buy other failing businesses in other categories, gut them of “wasteful” employees and do very little with the IP thrown into its already comic universe of bandaged together code. Growing consecutively for a decade by M&A under previous leadership, j2 now faces the hard realization that they’re outdated from a bygone era and must do something to sink or swim.

Cue 2017’s big surprise exit of the overly paid CEO known for tooting his own horn to interns, taking massive bonuses while leaving employees fighting for penny raises and Christmas socks as bonuses... a man feverishly eager to deny purchasing hard working employees updated laptops to do basic things like running Microsoft Outlook and Word at the same time. Projectors would seemingly take 15 minutes to sync to computers during zoom calls from Marc-eting, adding senseless hours of apologies to every project and senseless more broken communication with said senseless team.

New management has goals to review classic j2 employees and will probably phase them out signaled by recent events. Those who have bragged carelessly about lack of innovation, yet job security, will find themselves lost or unqualified in a sea of advanced job requirements. These employees should have been phased out decades ago but their roots are anchored deep into the floorboards of this crusty ship. J2 is a sinking barnacle infested pontoon turned in the direction toward land. The big fish will float off and swim to shore while all the regular employees will flounder. If you have a choice, go elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

    Drain the swamp.

    Pros

I honestly cannot think of a single pro to share. I actually lost thousands of dollars trying to get established at this place.

    Cons

An extremely cleeky, old-school, and unwelcoming bunch of people, hanging on to yesteryears communication technology, in the most unprofessional settings. The lack of planning, documentation, process, and engineering is unlike you have ever seen anywhere and in any country.
Compensation is low. Health coverage won't start in your first three months.
Single Points of Failure are not just technology, but people too.

    Advice to Management

    N/A

    Pros

They give you smelly socks for Christmas and feed you once and awhile.

    Cons

In a few words they will drain the very fabric of your soul. This is what prisoners of ww2 must've felt like. And when they fire you illegally they will fight your unemployment. Anywhere is better than here.

    Advice to Management

    Quit and sell.

    Pros

Relaxed environment. Free fruit and bagels during the week. Location in heart of Hollywood, so always somewhere to eat for lunch. Other than that, the experience was not positive.

    Cons

I do not recommend this company at all. Complete lack of organization. Disjointed chain of command. Analysts feel silo'd and isolated and not part of the whole. Manager does not listen and will lecture without taking a breath, therefore employees choose to limit questions or interactions to avoid him. People are expected to figure things out, then are criticized.

    Advice to Management

You will never retain top talent in your analytical team with the current structure. Assess what the problem may be, address it, and move on.
