I worked at mBlox full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. Managers generally seemed to know what they were doing. Due to my shift interaction was limited.

    Cons

Over reaction to minor incidents. Implementation of product without fully testing. Training was at a minimum. In many cases you were just thrown to the deep end to see if you could swim.

    Advice to Management

Better training, less stress on minor incidents. Trust your people to know what to do and let them do it.

I worked at mBlox (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Mblox as a company really valued working employees. The more you worked, the harder you worked the more you are recognized by the company.

    Cons

Company recognition is very rarely monetary and they expect that 40 hours a week is a part time job. They don't really push work/life balance and expect that the job take precedence above everything else.

    Advice to Management

Work on building up your employees more and update your idea of what a work/life balance is. Take more time to ensure that projects are fully scoped and completed prior to implementing them.

    Pros

If you like to work with all kinds of technologies, this is the place for you. There is tons of opportunities to learn and help improve the environment. The people here is what makes the job fun. Great people who works hard and plays hard. The work/life balance is great and I never felt like I didn't have time to spend with my family.

    Cons

The infrastructure is a mess and there is no time to address it. Projects are constantly coming in on the fly and you are expected to deliver on the spot. Unfortunately, this means sometimes taking shortcuts.

    Advice to Management

Take a step back and think about how to implement change to effectively scale as the company grows. Taking too many shortcuts will become a management nightmare.

I worked at mBlox as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Met some really great people with very interesting and exciting ideas to share. Good benefits and flexible with work schedules.

    Cons

No defined bonus structure nor will you know when you will get a raise. Senior management tends to bring people they've worked with previously on board, who are truly not a good fit for the business. No one is truly held accountable, would rather pass on solving the core issue. And there are several managers who act childish and unprofessional. No true leadership, a few barely know how to manage.

    Advice to Management

Invest in leadership development, conflict management training, and maners 101 for all members of management. Stop putting people in positions that are not good for them; managers should at least know how to handle certain situations without loosing their cool.

    Pros

Some very bright and dedicated teams are at mBlox, the teams in Sweden are excellent. There are some very talented people as well.

    Cons

This is a tough market that has undergone a huge number of changes that mBlox will struggle to compete with. It's a low margin business and it's not a growing market.

    Pros

    - There are several highly competent senior level managers in key roles that you can learn from.
    - They offer a great benefit package (Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, stock, PTO)
    - They try to make the work place fun (monthly potlucks, monthly company wide birthday celebrations, etc)

    Cons

    - The industry overall has shifted and opportunities are limited both within the company as well as in the market.
    - For a small company the environment is very bureaucratic
    - Some employees are overexerted while others don't have enough to do
    - Despite their efforts to maintain morale and a lively culture, they are budget constrained

    Advice to Management

Try to hire a CEO that will stick with the company, within the last five years there have been 5 or 6 different CEOs

    Pros

Some of the people are amazing

    Cons

Certain managers are promoted but not held accountable and feel that anything negative is their report's problem and don't help resolve in a constructive manner.

    Advice to Management

Make Managers accountable for their team's performance and don't allow them to take credit for their team's success when you know they aren't impacting that success.
