I have been working at no frills part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -great for students
    -carefree type of environment
-ability to work your way up to more of a managerial type position

    Cons

-sometimes you get rude customers, as with any other store, but you just have to deal with it
-supervisors can also be rude, some lack basic manners.

    Advice to Management

-do not put teenagers in supervisor positions, most of them are not mature enough to handle the tasks appropriately
-please allow more flexibility in scheduling, sometimes the workers just need a weekend off

  3. "The job itself isn’t too difficult but there is no room for advancement."

I have been working at no frills part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Weekly pay
    - Easy, repetitive job (minus the customer complaints)
    - Free 15 min break
    - Relatively nice coworkers

    Cons

    - Long shifts (up to 8 hours) which I find to be ridiculous for a part-time job
    - No flexibility when it comes to shifts. You must continue to work every Fri-Sun until you’ve worked 2000+ hours. This could take about 3 years depending on how often you work. You don’t even get to choose between morning and evening shifts.
    - No room for advancement unless you’re one of the management’s favourites. There are people who show up and within 2 months they’re doing more than the average cashier. Then there are people like myself who have been there for more than a year and get passed up for these opportunities. More often than not opportunities are not posted publicly management chooses who they like. I know a couple of people who have left because of this.
    - Cashiers get blamed for mistakes made by the grocery department
    - There are too many instances where grocery clerks refuse to answer your calls for price checks or customer assistance.
    - Union deductions

    Advice to Management

Offer opportunities for advancement based on seniority not favouritism. Consider changing the availability policy to allow for more flexible scheduling. People have lives outside of work.

I have been working at no frills part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly coworkers and don’t have to bag items :-) I was given a gift card for my hard work (...but it was expired.)

    Cons

Bad management (staff changes every second week and unorganized). Rude customers that fight you to save 15 cents. No breaks some days. Many mistakes in the schedule and not enough cashiers scheduled on busy days. Bad training. Management doesn’t care when supervisors are understaffed and struggling. I only earned 50 more cents than minimum wage working as supervisor for hard work that deserved more.

    Advice to Management

Schedule more than the bare minimum cashiers, your supervisors struggle with sending people on break and dealing with the backlash from angry customers.
