I have been working at rue21 full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There's always a lot of work to do. Visuals in a large Rue 21 are time consuming and stressful. I personally love doing them, but they are a lot of work. Time goes by quickly when you are working.

    Cons

Training is the biggest con for Rue 21. They often times throw you into the mix and you need to figure it out as you go. They do not operate much as a team it is very much every man for himself.

    Advice to Management

Training and customer engagement should be a focus and in the stores I have been in, it has not been.

I have been working at rue21 full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Low cost of living city. Relaxed atmosphere and dress code. Flex time makes it easier to live your life and work.

    Cons

Relatively low pay compared to similar companies in the area. Upper management can be difficult to work for. Located quite far from the city, so if you wanted the benefits of living in Pittsburgh you are going to have a long commute.

    Advice to Management

Treat your people better. They are are greatest asset. When you spend money and time to keep great talent in your company, then the company moves forward. When you don't, great talent is picked up by those who appreciate it and you are left with the employees that nobody wanted.

    Pros

Get 40% to 60% off once a month. Everyone you work with becomes family. 40 and chill is a thing! You won't ever have to work over 40 hours as a full time.

    Cons

They always have something going on. Floorset once a week. Signage all the time. Big markdowns. Table changes. Lots of shipment. It's all hard to get done in the little time they give us.

    Advice to Management

That is the best thing about rue. They will advice you if you work hard. I know girls that were sales associates and ended up becoming full time managers or even store managers.

I have been working at rue21 part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Rue 21 is a relaxed company that is good for those new to retail. They do not have super high expectations and they will hire pretty much anyone.

    Cons

You will not get any hours and you only get paid minimum wage for everything you have to do, and you don't get paid time and a half for working holidays, but you can't request them off.

    Advice to Management

Give the employees you've had longer the better hours, not the seasonal people. Be straight up with your associates and be honest.

    I worked at rue21 full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I've worked for the company for quite awhile so I guess you could say I enjoy working for Rue21! As a store manager, making my own schedule is nice and having assistant managers to learn from and teach is enjoyable.

    Cons

Selling fragrance is important to the company and it can get really stressful and tough at times. The company also seems to give their employees 1,000 things to do all at once. We are also not given extra payroll for training new sales associates or managers.

    Advice to Management

Lots of deep breaths... do what you can with the time you have.

I have been working at rue21 full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fun place to work, nice clothing selection!

    Cons

As management team there is no work life balance.... open on Thanksgiving when we should be home with our family. Sales associates need more pay then $7.25...

    Advice to Management

Employee discount could be better. Pay could be better and your store manager should do more work

    Pros

Fast paced, heavy tasking, good for learning to hit sales goals. Great for learning visual merchandising and marketing. Good place to learn magament skills

    Cons

Low pay, intense, nasty clientele. Lots of tasking at once, the company seems to focus too much on clearance instead of growing the brand. Lots of drama within stores. Quick turnover.

    Advice to Management

Good for a first time manager, if you can avoid the drama there is room to grow, if not, get your year experience and get out

I have been working at rue21 part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

A fun work environment and always plenty of things to accomplish during the day. Solid discount on clothing and a good first job.

    Cons

However, during the off seasons it can become incredibly tedious/boring to work there, even with the added responsibilities of an assistant manager. It's incredibly hard to get a pay raise or earn the amount that's actually deserved.

    Advice to Management

Provide more avenues of opportunity to make more money. At times I feel I put in as much, or more effort than my coworkers, and yet I still earn much less than them. They've even told me they wouldn't have taken my job at my pay rate.
