I worked at tarte full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You have summer Friday's off, get a lot of free makeup and the discount on all product is great.

    Cons

No one wants to fix the issues at the company. When brought someone will always say "there other's worst companies then us so its not that bad." But it is. They don't care about having a work life balance at all. This a job that seen others cry while working because the time lines are unrealistic with the amount of work load. Their vacation time here is a joke, no sick days, and the bonus and raise is not worth with toxic environment. If you're not a favorite you wont move up here. Everyone does what the CEO wants and is scarred of her. Unlike other companies I have worked for she does not consider, or be bothered with fixing these issues such as the ones constantly being said. The only people who stay here are the ones the CEO likes and favors.

I worked at tarte full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Fruit and cold brew - Free makeup time to time - Many brilliant and hard working co-workers

    Cons

    - Morale is LOW for those who are not new to the company and concerns don't seem to be taken serious ... hence revolving door - Feels like a free for all most of the time which creates unnecessary frustration and a sense of not belonging - Poor communication ALL around leaves teams feeling isolated and in the dark

    Pros

Good location, near a variety of good lunch options summer fridays Fruit in the office & cold brew

    Cons

If you are considering a job here, re-think your option seriously. This is the kind of place that sucks that life out of you!!The office is a mess. It is so loud that you will not be able to concentrate. You are sitting on top of your coworkers. DOn't bother booking conference rooms, you'll just get kicked out of a room you booked about 3 months in advance because an executive who thinks she is better than you decided to take it. There is so much work to do because the company is so understaffed. A lot of people are so lazy and will do anything to pawn their work off onto other people. Management is checked out. THe majority of executives aren't in the new york office, so employees get away with not working while many others work super hard to get their job done as well as the jobs of others. Upper management in under-qualified and unprofessional. Lots of bullying! I've known many people to be in tears at work. No matter how hard you work, you will not get the credit you deserve. If you want to do well here you have to suck up to upper management that is the only way to get ahead here

    Pros

There are many talented people that they have recruited away from other companies that you will have an opportunity to learn from. The work is fast paced. Free makeup 3x a year

    Cons

It can feel like there is no incentive to work for Tarte long-term. Turnover is constant. Long term vision is not openly discussed across the the business. It feels like there are so many ways in which the company could improve and increase loyalty. Here are a few things I noticed in my 2+ years at tarte... -Limited vacation / opportunities to work from home – Unless you join at the executive level, expect to receive limited / inflexible time away relative other jobs in NYC (not only cosmetics). Working from home was not an evenly distributed perk. --Maternity/paternity leave policy is behind the times relative tarte's competitors/other companies in NYC. Estee Lauder openly brags about their 4 months paid leave policy. This could be a relatively cheap perk to attract/retain mid level employees that want to stick around. -The best opportunities to get to know your co-workers outside the office is at goodbye happy hours for employees leaving the company. This only encourages toxic behavior & negative attitudes. Last year was the first year that the annual holiday trip was cancelled. -It feels like there are no opportunities for career advancement unless someone above you quits (/is fired). You have one review at year-end. It would have been nice to have had more of a process in place. --Promotions aren't celebrated by the company.

    Pros

sales are high because of shape tape

    Cons

your hard work means nothing unless you suck upto everyone and fake being friends. decisions are based entirely on favoritism. Dont go to HR they wont help you and it wont be kept confidential. rules will change specifically for you based on how many friends you make. its a big toxic highschool environment. no work life balance. everyone is doing the bare minimum, there's no way to succeed because the company structure is so weak that its set up so that you fail. not enough pay for the amount of work. the list goes on...

I have been working at tarte full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Talented employees who inevitably leave when they realize what they've gotten themselves into

    Cons

Can someone with authority please step up and start making decisions that are backed in data and not just the whim of a delusional founder and the 3-4 other "leaders" who think their personal preferences and misguided opinions matter? The senior "leaders" (who lack any real leadership or managerial experience and are completely unavailable, disconnected and uninspiring to the teams that they supposedly "lead") are all yes-women who sit in 5 hour meetings and spin on the same topics all day long, can't make up their mind and then finally when they do, they end up changing most of it later with no reasonable explanation, ownership or recognition of the impact it will have. Get it together. This happens time and time again such that your employees have lost all trust in you and are just waiting for the next round of bad news. Your complete lack of direction and decisiveness is hurting your business and is impacting your employees that actually have to do the work to execute your extremely loose and misguided plans, but you're so disconnected that you have no idea what's going on and who on your team is actually managing what. Because of the disorganization and inefficient processes, support employees have to do the same work over and over again and waste time making minute, costly changes that make no difference in terms of ROI. Time and resources are wasted (who's keeping track of those costs? no one), impacting employee's ability to take on more or grow within the company. Hardworking employees are frustrated but their completely valid call outs fall on deaf, delusional ears. Inexperienced managers don't know how to deal with feedback, and don't advocate for their team which causes further frustration and confusion. Great employees leave and the manipulative game-players stay and perpetuate the disorganized chaos that is tarte. It's so sad to see the leadership team ruining it for everyone and no one stepping up to fix it because they're too afraid. I get it though, because if you try to have a voice you will get knocked down and ignored. Look out for your team, look out for your employees, listen to what people are saying and if you have the authority to do something about it, you need to do your job as a leader and make sure it's communicated to the right people. Your complacency is failing your team and if the people you're managing are struggling, it's your fault. Sure, you can replace the people that leave, but they'll be gone in a year, too.
