I worked at tunecore full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people on the ground at TuneCore are great to work with. It's a very young company and most of the employees are friendly, competent, enthusiastic, and overall amazing coworkers. Compared to most start-ups it's a pretty relaxed environment and most employees have a great work/life balance. Very competitive salaries for engineers especially.

    Cons

Far and away the most incompetent CEO I've ever worked for, and that's saying something. Completely unqualified for his position and it is glaringly obvious. If that weren't bad enough he's also a bully, and regularly yells at and threatens employees for daring to disagree with his unfounded pronouncements. Unsurprisingly, the company's been hemorrhaging competent managers and employees for years.

Absolutely zero room for growth with the possible exception of the customer care team. Kiss your hopes of ever being promoted goodbye. And kiss your hopes for growing in your profession goodbye, too. When 90% of the projects that come down the line are brainless promotional efforts, you're not gonna get much of an opportunity to grow your skills, no matter what your title.

Also, this is a comparatively silly thing, but Dumbo is an annoying place to work. The riverside park is nice but it doesn't make up for the total lack of useful shops or restaurants in the area, and the frustrating inundation of tourists in the summer and holiday season.

    Advice to Management

Refocus your business. Quit it with the get-rich-quick schemes. Get some respect for your users and stop treating them like cash machines. And while you're at it, do something about your ego problems.

Great people and supportive work environment.

    Cons

More mobility and opportunity for people, and also connect departments so people are working more cross-functionally.
