    Pros

    -Good money but it always depends on tips -You can be yourself

    Cons

    The branch that I work for used to be an amazing and very customer service focused place. A while back though the HQ demanded less people on the floor and now everyone is working double time, just running around and serving food rather than providing customer service. It used to be a paradise where you could communicate with your customers and build rapport, but now it is all about reducing hours and work like a slave. I don't even want to go there anymore. I have no idea what the people in HQ have in mind but it is not working and they are turning wagamama into MC Donald's. Pity to see wagamama dropping so low when I liked it so much.

    -Excellent management (supportive and friendly) -Lively/upbeat atmosphere -Generous perks and tips

    Cons

    -Used to be hard to organise/plan things outside of work due to rota being published a week in advance. However, this seems to have improved a lot since launch of new app Woksapp.

    Everybody works well together as a team Brilliant pay from hourly rate and tips plus good food on shift Happy working environment (customers and staff) Very thorough 3 weeks training period

    Cons

    Hard to balance work and social/education life as shifts can be till late Minimal breaks on shift A lot of information to remember with menus etc but slowly develops

    I worked at wagamama full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    If you get lucky most of the team you work with are usually very sociable and friendly, this varied in different restaurants I worked in however. You receive a food allowance per shift and a discount on any extra which is great, plus a discount for you and three guests on dining in when not on shift. Some members of management integrate well with the team and are happy to help, however this unfortunately has been a real minority in my experience.

    Cons

    Having worked other customer service jobs, this continually has been by far the most stressful. Consistently over the years, busy periods are always understaffed and unprepared and this makes it almost impossible to deliver the standards of customer service the company is so keen to put forward. Back of house are often aggressive, unapproachable and generally difficult to work with. This was a feeling shared by many of the staff I worked with, receiving many complaints and at times withteam members in tears after berating them; often for something as simple as modifying a dish at the request of a guest, or making a simple mistake in an order- which is extremely easy and common when serving staff are spread so thinly due to a complete imbalance in customers to staff. The restaurant's solution to these concerns were for foh to not approach boh and go through a manager instead, which further delayed service. Front of house managers much of the time were extremely unhelpful, there was little to no communication between back of house, managers and team members on the floor meaning often you would have to return to tables after ordering to tell them food was unavailable, or be chasing managers to follow up on food that was, all too often, disproportionately slow and complained about by customers. There is also a real problem with blame culture in the restaurant, bad shifts or negative feedback were almost always pinned on front of house team members, but with little to no support from managers or back of house staff; much of these issues were out of our hands. Many team members had issues with the rotas and shift system, with three hour breaks being given to staff working until 8 or 9 pm and closing staff being offered only one. The split shifts really do take up all of your day, and its frustrating to be waiting around for three hours to start work again. I wouldn't have minded once or twice a week but every working day is a real negative to working for wagamama. The shifts were never divided equally, with the same staff being placed on closing shifts- sometimes up to 6 in a week while others would continually be cut at 8 or 9pm. Rotas were also never released on the promised time scale, but on the odd occasion you would request a day off in advance you were dealt with as a real nuisance and guilt tripped because the 'rota is already done' but you would still be waiting till two days before the commencing week to see it.

    I worked at wagamama full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    It's a great friendly job that has decent finishing and starting time and you earn a good amount of tips. Some managers are willing to help you and understand your situation. Cooks are pretty social too.

    Cons

    Even if you're suppose to be working full time they only give small hours after you finish your training. Most managers don't know how to handle mental health properly. The managers also complains when you ask about not being available for one day and they use that against you to give you less hours even though you can do any other day.
