I worked at xpedx full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I liked most of my coworkers. They were a really good group of people to work with.

    Cons

Business decline. Xpedx's business was focused mainly on paper sales. Since more and more businesses and organizations are trying to go "paperless", that meant the company was constantly loosing business. The company leaders were too slow to try diversifying and adapting to the paperless trend. I worked there for 11 years. The company had almost no growth during that 11-year period. The division I worked for managed to stay open during that time (unlike some of the other divisions in the region), but they slowly and consistently cut employees by eliminating positions. I also had a manager who didn't like me, which made my time at work unpleasant.

    Advice to Management

Don't get stuck in the past. Learn to adapt and diversify the business model to keep up with modern, paperless trends.

I worked at xpedx (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Owned at the time by IP (International Paper). Outstanding benefits and perks.

    Cons

They sought to develop a Facilities Supplies segment to the Paper and Packaging business, however it did not develop fast enough and the division was sold off.

    Advice to Management

    Be forth right with employees.

    Pros

Lots of opportunity if you are self starter and resourceful; helpful management when working on new or prospect customer projects

    Cons

Too many unproductive tasks that are internally focused, instead of customer focused. Uncertainty in management structure with restructure merger sale

    Advice to Management

Focus on the customer and provide latitude and support to field sales with experienced customer service and simplified internal processes
