Salary Details for a Postdoctoral Associate at UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester, MA

If you could do it again, would you still become a teacher in today’s climate not just Covid but the whole attack economically and socially. If you yes , Would you choose teach the same thing that you teach now? If No what would you do for a living?

Would you take a job that pays you 25k more a year if you had to do an hour long commute both ways? Or the school that you can walk to for 25k less? And no, relocation is not an option. (For those who need more details, one salary is about $65k and the other is about $90k as a 5th year teacher.)

For teachers that are about to retire, do you feel as if you have sufficient funds to allow you to retire coming from your pension or investment accounts? I’m in my third year of teaching and contributing over 1000 a month to my 403b retirement account, 600 a month into my Roth IRA, and maxing out my health savings account but I’m not sure it will be enough to allow me to retire by the time I hit my 20th year. Do you feel as if this is enough?

We live in a society where people working from home buy mouse movers so they can take mid-day naps, but they get rewarded with bonuses annually. Meanwhile, teachers spend their own money on their students, work countless hours after school for no pay, and their only means of a “bonus” is taking and paying for additional classes to move up a salary scale … Seems pretty backwards to me 🤷🏽‍♀️
