This October part of our team attended the 2017 Gathering of Friends Dinner featuring Dr. Bennet Omalu. This was an amazing evening and incredibly unique experience to hear Dr. Bennet Omalu share his story in person. In 2002, he discovered the presence of a degenerative disease in the brain of former pro football player Mike Webster, naming the condition chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). His efforts to raise awareness of CTE were rebuffed by the NFL, although mounting evidence eventually forced the NFL to make concessions. Omalu's work was dramatized in the 2015 film Concussion, with actor Will Smith portraying the Nigerian-born doctor.

Scott Washle, General Manager, also holds a monthly drawing where more than 20 team members names are randomly selected to win door prizes. Bentley Atlanta recently hosted a fundraiser benefiting the enAble of Georgia Foundation. The event took place at the Bentley Atlanta location where invited guests got a chance to browse through the new Bentley models.
Over 120 guests bid on various items during a live auction at the event. All proceeds from the auction benefited adults with developmental disabilities whom enAble of Georgia supports. Chief Human Resources Officer Jed Milstein, General Counsel George Villasana and Asbury's new Chief Financial Officer Sean Goodman attended the fundraiser.
Bentley Atlanta General Manager Sid Baron said, "We wanted to host this event because we believe in the good work the enAble Foundation provides for people with disabilities. This was also a great way to showcase vehicles to our customers in the community. It was a wonderful event and we raised over $100,000 for the EnAble Foundation."
EnAble offers residential opportunities for adults to live, work and play in their community, along with a day program and supported employment.
In conjunction with Asbury's Women in Automotive Retail Initiative, the company recently sponsored the Second Annual Judson Women's Leadership Conference, held on June 20th at the Cobb Galleria Centre, in Marietta, GA. Several Asbury Team Members attended the event.
National Talent Acquisition Manager Mercedes Garcia-Baker said, "This year's conference provided a great learning environment to share and analyze the unique strengths, challenges, and opportunities facing women. We were able to represent Asbury and recruit talented women with diverse backgrounds."
The conference offered networking sessions, mentoring and leadership development between attendees and C-level executives, best-selling authors, and successful business leaders. The attendees included college and high school students, retired military, educators and business professionals from many different industries.
David McDavid Honda of Irving has been able to bring in record numbers, even though a complete renovation is underway. "It wasn't always like this," said Buck Barton, who has been the General Manager since February 2017. "The team was always great, we just became better in sync."
"When I took the job, I made it a priority to listen to the needs of my team," Barton said. "Once you take care of your people, they take care of the customers and that's how you earn your customers' trust. By exceeding their expectations."
Aside from working well together, they make sure to celebrate birthdays, have cookouts, get involved in community events and even have ice-cream socials on Fridays. "We don't just work together, we have fun together," Barton says. "We're family."
Yesterday, Asbury had its official ground breaking ceremony at the site of the new state-of-the-art Nissan and Infiniti dealerships in Atlanta. Asbury acquired 20 acres of the 165-acre former GM site and will open the dealerships in mid-2016.
