    A Brooklyn Charter School Looks Past 'No Excuses'

    Big City Four years ago, while reporting on the difficulties of life in Brownsville, Brooklyn, one of the poorest neighborhoods in New York, I met a school administrator named Marsha Gadsden who worked for the Ascend Public Charter Schools network.

    The 2017 New York State Common Core test results are out, and we're excited to share the news of our progress. Strong growth Once again this year Ascend students made inspiring gains. In both ELA and math, the network posted higher levels of proficiency than both New York City and New York State, and by wider margins this year than last.
