Nancy Shendell-Falik Appointed President, BMC & SVP, Hospital Operations, BH! Effective today, Oct. 1, Nancy Shendell-Falik, RN, MA, is the president of Baystate Medical Center and senior vice president for Hospital Operations, Baystate Health. The presidents of Baystate Franklin Medical Center/Northern Region, Baystate Noble Hospital and Baystate Health’s Eastern Region will report to her. Her appointment is a historic milestone marking both the first female president and the first nurse as president of Baystate Medical Center.

Delivering a Higher State of Caring....a patient admitted to the ICU was facing end of life care. The patient’s spouse asked about bringing in their dog for comfort. As soon as the dog saw the patient, he gently licked her face, and cuddled in her arms. After about an hour, the patient no longer wanted the breathing machine. The dog remained in the arms of the patient and did not move. When the patient's heart stopped, the dog put his paw on her chest, and licked her face. The dog resisted being removed from the room. The dog died four hours after the patient.
