    Carilion Clinic to expand Roanoke Memorial Hospital

    Carilion Clinic announced Wednesday morning that the company plans to expand the Roanoke Memorial Hospital and the Behavioral Health Building. The expansion is part of Carilion's long-term plan to invest $1 billion in the region. The cost of the Roanoke Memorial expansion is expected to exceed $300 million.

    The benefits of pet therapy for patients are endless. It helps lower blood pressure, releases endorphins that have a calming effect, diminishes overall pain and it can even help increase a patient's motivation to recover faster. Carilion Clinic started its pet therapy program, Pet Pals, in 1998.

    Soul Survivors helps children grieve

    Thursday marks National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day. Grief is one thing that can be especially tough for children to understand. Whether losing a family member or a friend, grief can be extremely difficult for young children. Carilion Clinic has a program to help these kids cope---it's called Soul Survivors.

    Commitments reach $1M mark for fund honoring Virginia Tech medical school founding dean

    Johnson announced her intent to retire in February 2018, but stayed in the role until the end of the calendar year as the search for her replacement began. Lee Learman was announced as the new dean in January 2019. Soon after Johnson announced she would retire, the school established the vision fund as a permanent tribute to her legacy.
