What exactly does a Citizen Developer at Continental do? For a long time, Excel lists were used to handle incident processing. Today, colleagues report safety and malfunction issues quickly and easily via an app. The upgrade is thanks to one of our Senior Compounders Chris along with Production & Plant Engineer Manager Steve, who together developed the app single-handedly. The remarkable thing here is, that neither Chris nor Steve are professional programmers nor work in IT. Instead, both also work as so-called Citizen Developers. This term refers to people with little or no programming experience who create applications using technologies approved and provided by Continental IT. If you are interested in becoming a Citizen Developer and you’re already part of Continental just contact the CLAP team.

What exactly does a Technical Project Manager at Continental do? Our colleague Jürgen is a Technical Project Manager for ICAS1 – the In-Car Application Server which is already installed in the latest electric vehicles from Volkswagen, e.g. the ID.3 and ID.4. He has been responsible for all technical aspects of this project, so coordinating project planning, checking customer requirements for feasibility, proactively advising customers, solving problems and coordinating teams form part of his routine tasks. The project was conducted according to the Scaled Agile Framework or SAFe for short. This agile method makes it possible to manage software projects of this scale expediently, as well as assuring collaboration and communication between developers, testers and the customer. In this way, the ICAS1 project was broken down into manageable tasks and the persons responsible were able to respond flexibly to new requirements and changes during the course of the project.
