Griffith Company Summer Interns Present To Company Leaders
On August 10th Griffith's Summer Interns had an opportunity to have lunch with our Company's leaders and to share what was learned from their respective internship experiences. The interns touched on some of their day-to-day duties, Griffith staff who were particularly supportive of them, and other highlights from their experience such as job site visits and their 1-on-1 meetings with our CEO, Tom Foss.
Griffith Company Summer Interns Tour Vulcan Materials Plants
On August 3rd Griffith's Summer Interns were hosted by Vulcan Materials Company and were taken on a tour of the Company's testing lab and San Gabriel Valley aggregate and asphalt plants. Our interns were joined by a couple of Griffith's leaders (Ryan Aukerman, Executive Vice President; Janell Carlson, Division Manager, Landscape Division).
Vulcan Materials Company is an important partner of Griffith, and we thank Don Luna, Rosemary Luna, Greg Watts and other members of their team for graciously hosting our summer interns for the second consecutive year.
Delivery Of Tiny House Constructed By High School Girls
Over the weekend of August 11th/12th Griffith Company field staff delivered a tiny house and tiny office to the River Haven community in the city of Ventura. The tiny house and office were constructed by participants of Camp NAWIC in partnership with Taller San Jose Hope Builders. Camp NAWIC is designed to acquaint high school girls with construction career opportunities, and is a week long project of the Orange County chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC).
The Camp NAWIC participants were previously hosted by Griffith Company on July 16th at our Brea Office and also at our Port of Long Beach Pier E project.

Griffith Summer Interns Tour LULEP Job Site Visit
On July 27th, Griffith's Summer Interns visited our LULEP joint venture project. LULEP (LAWA Utilities and LAMP Enabling Projects) is a more than $330 million dollar joint venture with Myers & Sons Construction, and is part of Los Angeles World Airports' multi-billion dollar effort to ease traffic congestion in and out of LAX.
Our summer interns received insight into the world of a joint venture and obtained a glimpse into some of the many projects that make up LULEP. One of the highlights of the intern visit was a tour of the new Bob Hope USO at LAX, one of several centers that serves as a rest stop and meeting place for military personnel and their family. The Myers-Griffith joint venture oversaw the construction of this center.

Griffith Summer Interns Tour Port Of Long Beach Pier E Project
On July 11th, Griffith Company's summer interns visited our new and largest solo venture project: Port of Long Beach Pier E Container Yard and Intermodal Railyard. The interns received insight into the complexities of this $152 million dollar project, some of its various challenges and also the technological innovations.

Griffith Hosts High School Girls At Construction Camp
On July 16th, Griffith Company hosted the participants of Camp NAWIC, a week long camp designed to acquaint high school girls with career options in the construction industry. The Camp participants started their day at Griffith's Brea Office where they heard from a few speakers including our Executive Vice President, Ryan Aukerman, one of our Site Safety Managers, Antonieta Vargas and one of our second year summer interns, Joezelin Perez. In the afternoon, the participants were treated to an exciting tour of Griffith's new $152 million dollar Pier E project at the Port of Long Beach.
Camp NAWIC is an annual event of the Orange County chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC). Griffith Company is proud to have partnered with NAWIC Orange County to introduce the next generation of women employees to the growing and lucrative career opportunities in the construction industry.
Lunch & Learn Hosted By Griffith's In-House Legal Counsel
On June 22nd, Griffith Company's General Counsel, Ron Pierce, hosted a workshop on "Retention & Liquidated Damages". The workshop intended to inform the workshop attendees of a contractor's rights as it relates to liquidated damages and the withholding and release of retention monies. Attendees also heard brief remarks on the topic by Dave Diaz (Vice President/Manager of Field Operations) and Sadaqat Rana (Senior Project Manager). Over 40 Griffith team members were in attendance including Project Managers, Project Engineers, accounting staff and summer interns.
Griffith Company Summer Intern Training Day
On June 29th Griffith's 13 Summer Interns participated in the "Griffith Training Immersion Experience". This day long event acquainted our interns with the type of internal and external learning opportunities that Griffith provides its employees. The interns also received a primer on the function of estimating, a tutorial on Griffith's software tools and exposure to how our various corporate units collaborate with our project teams. The day was capped off with the interns taking a short walking tour of Griffith's rich 116 year history through our hallway picture gallery.
Griffith Company At California Construction Expo
On June 20th Griffith Company participated as an exhibitor at the 2018 California Construction (CalCon) Expo in Anaheim, California. "The California Construction Expo is a 2-day exposition that is attended by over 1,500 industry professionals seeking to build relationships and receive the opportunity to work with the state’s leading government agencies."
Griffith Company Annual Stockholders' Meeting
On June 19th Griffith Company held it's annual Stockholders' Meeting for staff from our Brea and Santa Fe Springs Offices as well as those staffed on our local project teams. Attendees had an opportunity to hear about the financial health of our company and Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), and also the company's key accomplishments within the last year. Attendees were also able to do some networking before and after the meeting. Griffith Executives held a similar meeting the next day (June 20th) for the staff of our Bakersfield Office.
