This week, IKEA is recognizing Transgender Awareness Week – an important moment to raise visibility of the discrimination that transgender people face and lift those in the transgender community. At IKEA, we support our LGBTQ+ co-workers’ right to be themselves, and our aim is to create an inclusive work environment where co-workers feel encouraged to bring their truest self to work every day. Hej everyone! I’m Allyson Racadio, Graphic Communication Leader at IKEA College Park. Throughout my tenure, I’ve planned and went on build-ups for new stores, the latest being the Call Center remodel which presented a unique floor plan with which to employ the IKEA brand look and feel. My proudest IKEA moments were being able to design and implement both IKEA College Park’s 2017 and 2018 booths and the 2018 parade floats for the Washington D.C. Capital Pride Festival. It was a fantastic experience being able to represent a company that proudly celebrates its diversity! 🌈
Here at IKEA U.S., we are lucky to have so many incredible co-workers who make our success as a company possible and contribute to our commitment to creating better homes, better communities, and a better planet. Today we’re excited to share that IKEA Retail U.S. is raising starting wages for all U.S. co-workers to $16 per hour, beginning January 1, 2022, with some hourly wages starting at $17 or $18 per hour depending on location. A majority of U.S. co-workers will also receive the “One IKEA Bonus,” a performance-based payout totaling $76 million in the U.S., in addition to the one-time Ingka UPPSKATTA gift of $17 million to be distributed among all U.S. co-workers. We have also enhanced our comprehensive benefits packages to include a minimum of five weeks paid time off, education assistance, back-up child care, adult care and more. Each day we strive to take steps to create a great place to work for all of our co-workers, and we’re excited to expand these benefits to help our co-workers create a better life at home for themselves and their loved ones.
Over the past year, people in the U.S. continued to seek a new meaning of home, and we’re honored and humbled to have played a role in their journey by providing the products and solutions to meet their needs. In fiscal year (FY) 21, we saw one of our most successful years to-date at IKEA U.S., and we couldn’t have done it without our co-workers, customers and neighbors. As we reflect on FY21 and look toward what’s next, we have plans to continue to grow business by bringing new store formats to city centers, remain committed to becoming climate positive by 2030, and continue efforts to impact climate change and social injustice by working together through collaboration and advocacy on issues that impact everyone. Across the U.S., teams came together to navigate another extraordinary year. They adapted to their new reality and continued to help the many people create better homes, better communities and a better planet.
UPPSKATTA! Let's say it together: OPP-scat-tah! It's the Swedish word for "appreciate," and at IKEA, we have so much to be appreciative for. For starters, our superstar co-workers. Today, Ingka Group announced a one-time $128 million USD financial gift of appreciation to distribute among all co-workers across the globe. Throughout the last 18+ months, our co-workers have made extraordinary efforts to meet our customers' needs in these extraordinary times, and we're immense!y grateful for their perseverance and support.
