Do you remember what it was like to get your first bicycle? Several kids with disabilities now know that feeling too thanks to the many volunteers who participated in Variety’s Bikes for Kids Event. We felt fortunate to help build bikes for kids in our community last Saturday and make the event another success. Keep up the amazing work, MEC!
We are always making health and wellness a priority at MEC. Here are some of our employees learning new fitness techniques at our 2018 Health and Safety Fair. Thank you to two of our vendors, Ben Smith with Fitness Friend Wellness for showing us workouts and stretches we can do at our desk, and Jennifer McDaniel with McDaniel Nutrition Therapy for teaching us about healthy snacking!
During the month of October, our MEC and Pennex Aluminum family came together to raise a total of $58,688.02 for United Way! It is truly gratifying to know that our employees enterprise wide are invested in making a difference to improve the lives of those in our communities.
The United Way Week here at our St. Louis office was Hawaiian Themed and filled with fun activities for employees. They participated in bucket toss games, a Wii Bowling Tournament and a luau as part of the campaign!
Thank you to everyone for donating to a great cause – we even had a little fun while doing it!
A big farewell to Barb Hassell as she enters retirement. Barb has always been a participant and winner in our annual costume contest here at MEC. Congratulations again, Barb. We wish you nothing but the best!
MEC is excited to recognize Katie Moore for truly demonstrating one of our core values, Drive, as she competed in an Ironman in Louisville, Kentucky on Sunday, October 14th. Katie has demonstrated both mental and physical drive through her countless hours of training, ability to balance her workload, and the incredible effort she put into finishing the race. Katie swam, biked, and ran a total of 140.6 miles in the rain and 48 degree weather. Her MEC team is extremely proud of her!
On Sunday, September 30th, the small but mighty MEC team completed the Pedal the Cause charity bike ride to benefit cancer research. All of us know way too many relatives, friends or colleagues who have been inflicted by cancer. The vision of PTC is “a world without cancer”. As a result of the great work of medical professionals across our country we are getting closer every day.
It was a great effort and with the tremendous generosity and support, the Metal Exchange Team has now raised $16,996 for the cause!
Metal Exchange Corporation is proud to have supported Big Brothers Big Sisters and Bowl for Kids’ Sake for the past 13 years and raised $238,000! We are excited that our very own Big Brother, Kevin Schmidt, has been a Big Brother for the past 3 years and willing to talk to us about his positive experience with the organization. Thank you to MEC’s Ben Evans and Melissa Bode with Big Brothers Big Sisters for their help in organizing our kick-off event for the upcoming Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraiser on November 30th!
Mike Kelley (VP International Business Development), Christine Allison (Director of Treasury) and Becky Parisi (Compensation and Benefits Manager) represented Metal Exchange Corporation at the 10th Annual International Business Conference again this year. As leaders in our organization, all three were able to connect with students and staff of all departments to strengthen our partnership with the university.
A huge THANK YOU to Shannon (one of our Wellness Champions) for demonstrating resistance band exercises at our Wellness Event yesterday! After an engaging demonstration of exercises that can be done in our work space, everyone received a company branded band!
