SK Hynix to Further Widen Gap with Competitors in NAND Flash Sector
"SK hynix Inc., South Korea's No. 2 chipmaker, saw its second-quarter net profit surge 75.4 percent from a year earlier Thursday, setting a new quarterly record amid the strong shipments of both dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) and NAND flash products.
Net profit reached a record high of 4.3 trillion won (US$3.84 billion) in the April-June period, compared with 2.4 trillion won posted a year earlier, SK hynix said in a regulatory filing."
"SK Hynix announced on Nov. 12 that the company has developed an 8Gbit DDR DRAM with higher productivity and power efficiency by applying a second-generation 10-nanometer micro-process. The company said the new technology boosted its productivity by about 20% while reducing 8Gbit DDR DRAMs’ consumption of electric power by more than 15%. This product can stably transfer data at a rate of 3,200Mbps, which is the highest rate supported by DDR4 standards."
The very last session of our Learning Organization Series this year has successfully ended. Thanks Scott Kim for this wonderful session! A total of 10 sessions have taken place in 2018 and it has been a great opportunity for all of us to get insights, explore new ideas, learn about new fields and find out how each and every one of SKHYA employees is so passionate about sharing what they know and what they love. We look forward to even more engaging and informative Learning Organization Series next year!
SKHYA employees headed to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties (SHFB) and sorted & packed over 11,700 pounds of sweet potatoes and pears. One in four people in Silicon Valley is at risk of hunger. Let’s carve out time to give back to the community and make a difference. Thank you, everyone, who joined us in volunteering at SHFB.
SK hynix develops world’s first 4D NAND flash
SK hynix has developed the world’s first 4D NAND flash memory using both Charge Trap Flash and Peri Under Cell technologies, with a plan to start mass production this year, according to the chipmaker on Sunday.
"South Korea’s SK Hynix Inc posted record third-quarter operating profit on Thursday, beating expectations thanks to a seasonal sales boost for mobile devices and strong server demand."
"Moody`s Investors Service has upgraded South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix Inc.`s debt rating to Baa2 from Baa3 with a stable outlook, indicating further upgrade as it expects the world’s second-largest DRAM maker to keep up an operating margin at around 40 percent next year as well despite softening in the global demand from peak levels."
In today's Learning Organization Series session, Eric shared his knowledge about Data Center Storage Architecture. It's always interesting to learn new things from those who are so passionate about what they do!
SOLAB team members headed to the Second Harvest Food Bank to volunteer their time and give back to the community. Thank you SOLAB!
