  • Osiris-REX Finds Bennu Full of Surprises
Recent images captured by PolyCam reveal Bennu’s surface is scattered with boulders, forcing the team to adjust the plan for sample collection. The rough surface is not the only surprise. The satellite also observed particle plumes erupting from the surface of the asteroid and MapCam detected magnetite, which indicates the interaction of rock with liquid water. Scientists are surprised by these discoveries and looking forward to learning what else the mission will reveal. SDL provided the detector assemblies for the OSIRIS-REx Camera Suite (OCAMS) instruments, which includes PolyCam, MapCam, and SamCam.
