"All too often, as a woman in the field of technology, I’ve been the only woman in a room full of men. As a woman technologist, I’m definitely in the minority. The more senior I get, the more of a minority I’m in, and the more of a problem I realize that this is. Without women getting into careers in technology, we are missing critical voices at the table where decisions are made and problems are solved. I lead the architecture for Order to Cash and Finance, and my team is at the very core of the Change Program that Thomson Reuters is embarking on. We are moving from being a holding to an operating company, and putting the customer experience at the heart of everything we do... We’re recruiting much more than any time I remember, and front of mind is how important it is to have a diverse mindset when implementing new solutions. A career in technology is challenging and exciting, and I want more women to join our team and have the opportunities I've had at Thomson Reuters." #BeYouAtTR Meet Effie, Senior Enterprise Architect #WorkingAtTR
"First and foremost, I am a Muslim. My faith is more than just a belief – it is a way of life. It impacts the choices that I make and how I conduct myself. Monday marked the first day of Ramadan; the beginning of fasting, deep spiritual discipline, and coming together as a community. After welcoming our twin girls during the global pandemic, we are celebrating Ramadan for the first time as a family of four. Every year we rotate around the homes for Iftar (breaking of the fast) which creates priceless memories as we indulge in various cuisines such as dates from Arabia for starters, soups of all kinds for the mains, and samosas as sides from South Asia. We also tend to “overcook” so we can share with our neighbors. By the end of the month, I feel I have learned something new about myself, grown spiritually, and created a healthy habit for the rest of the year to come." #BeYouAtTR Meet Dulal, an HR Consultant, in London. 2020 was a year that we will not soon forget. COVID-19 impacted the way we live and work, events in the U.S. sparked a global awakening about #racism and #inequality, extreme weather events highlighted the threat of climate change, and misinformation continued to stoke divisions and erode trust in our institutions. At Thomson Reuters, we believe our company has a vital role to play in tackling these challenges. Read how in our 2020 Social Impact Report, launched today:
"As a nonbinary member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I think a lot about gendered language, particularly the importance of using everyone’s correct pronouns (such as she/her, he/him, or they/them). I have always been passionate about language and communication, from studying foreign languages and linguistics to my current role as a senior editor at Thomson Reuters. Being part of our business resource group, Pride at Work, I help make our workplace inclusive and welcoming in partnership with LGBTQIA+ colleagues and allies. I have realized that a lot of people want to be allies to trans and nonbinary people but don’t always know or feel comfortable with the language to use. As with learning any new language, practice helps! In honor of International Transgender Day of Visibility, I encourage everyone to take time to celebrate the transgender members of our community and learn how you can help make our workplaces – and our world – safer and more inclusive." Meet Kit (they/them, she/her), Senior Editor, FindLaw.com, Minneapolis. Check out Kit's blog on how you can help drive inclusion.
In a message to all Thomson Reuters employees today, Chief People Office Mary-Alice Vuicic shared her perspective on a day of healing: "Thomson Reuters condemns racism, discrimination and hatred in all of its forms, and we’re disturbed by the ongoing violence against Asians and Asian-Americans." "I’ve always wanted to do meaningful work to uphold women’s participation and help unlock the tremendous leadership potential the women around me carry. When the conversations about launching a women’s leadership development program in India started, I immediately put my hand up and, by far, it has been the most rewarding experience for me. Through the Thomson Reuters India Program for Leadership and Empowerment (T.R.I.P.L.E.), I’m on this journey with other incredible women, discovering my authentic self as a leader and how I can empower myself and uplift the women around me." Meet Yamini, Talent Acquisition Partner T.R.I.P.L.E. project member & participant, in our Bangalore office. Read about Yamini's full experience on the careers blog.
