Meet Jennifer, a diplomat, from New Mexico: "I was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM. My mother encouraged my sister and me to explore the history, natural beauty and diverse cultures of the American Southwest. Growing up in Los Alamos, NM, her neighbors were the physicists who worked on the Manhattan Project to develop the first atomic bomb. Learning about this history encouraged me to pursue science, and later, a career in government service to pursue peaceful resolutions to global conflicts. After working as an engineer, and then serving in the U.S. Army, I joined the Foreign Service. I currently work w/ talented colleagues across Embassy Beijing to share expertise & explore creative solutions to global problems. I feel very lucky to play a part in promoting U.S. interests & working w/ other countries to protect our planet. I’m always pleased to run into other New Mexicans & Southwesterners in the Foreign Service. The diversity of our cultures, backgrounds & perspectives adds to our creativity & helps us show the diversity of the United States to our counterparts overseas."
