The Kenya Copyright Amendment Act of 2019 introduces several significant changes to copyright law in Kenya. The Act extends the duration of copyright protection, allowing for a longer period of exclusive rights for literary, musical, and artistic works, as well as audio-visual works. It recognizes and grants exclusive rights to performers and producers of sound recordings. The Act introduces fair dealing provisions that permit limited use of copyrighted works for purposes such as criticism, review, research, and education. It also includes provisions on digital rights management, prohibiting circumvention of technological protection measures.
