UK’s Top 10 Jobs In-Demand – And What They Pay

LONDON (8th August, 2019) Glassdoor, one of the world’s largest job and recruiting sites, today reveals the most sought-after roles among UK job seekers, with industry-agnostic ‘Project Manager’ topping the list. The UK’s Top 10 Job Roles In Demand list, based on what job seekers were looking for during June 2019, is dominated by high-paying, skilled jobs. All of these jobs have thousands of open vacancies in the UK right now, and six of these highly in-demand roles were among Glassdoor’s Best Jobs in the UK 2019.

Technology, finance and administrative roles are the most searched for; all are roles which require experience and, often, qualifications. Nine out of  10 of the most searched for roles pay, on average, above the average national gross salary.

At the same time, Glassdoor’s research demonstrates that job seekers are also looking for roles where they can use specialist technology skills, with searches for skills such as Java, Python, .net, SQL and Linux prominent during June 2019. These skills are often self-taught or learned outside of traditional education, demonstrating the desire amongst job seekers to upskill themselves to qualify for some of these demanding roles.

The UK’s Top 10 Job Roles In Demand:

Joe Wiggins, director at Glassdoor, comments: “Unemployment is at a historic low and employers are having to fight extra hard to attract new talent. Our data reveals that jobs for people with experience and skills within technology, engineering and finance are hot right now.”

“Generous salaries are an expectation in these roles. However, in order to stand out to new talent, any business that has job openings for in-demand roles must look beyond the package they are offering and realise that their company culture can be make or break in terms of landing the right individual. A company’s culture and mission is much more likely to get new employees in the door – and subsequently to stick around – than high salaries and benefits.”

While these are the most in-demand jobs, job seekers on Glassdoor explore more than just the job description before applying for a role. A recent report from Glassdoor demonstrates that 69% of job seekers would not apply to a company whose values didn’t align with their own personal values. And three-quarters would consider a company’s culture before applying there.

Methodology

The UK’s Top 10 Job Roles In Demand list was compiled using a sample of UK-based job seekers searching for jobs on Glassdoor between June 1, 2019 and June 30, 2019 to identify which keywords were searched for the most. More than one million keywords were analysed.
