How to Land An In-Demand Job Today

At one time, working in data analytics is the Ritz Carlton of job offers. Seemingly five minutes later, it’s all about 3D printing and augmented reality. As if overnight, new “in-demand” jobs creep into the market and make themselves comfortable. Technology and innovation are moving at lightening speed, resulting in the equally fast development of both new industries and jobs. It’s an exciting time, to say the least. Looking to take advantage of this time of burgeoning opportunity to pursue a hot ticket job? We can help. In order to maximize your chances of landing an in-demand job, remember these 5 things:

Know what skills you need.

Many in-demand jobs are skill based. Think: coding. Possessing the in-demand skill is what will make you in demand and valuable. Make sure your skills are top-notch. Consider investing in continuing education, or think about getting a certification that vouches for your abilities. If you want to learn the skill, now’s the time to go into full-force student mode.

Know who you need to talk to and network with.

In-demand job or not, so much of landing any job comes down to who you know. If you’re looking to break into a new industry or land a particular job, make a concerted effort to meet people who work in the field you want to work in, and reach out to people who have the job you want. And be sure to let them know you’re looking to land a new job— don’t be shy about your intentions!

Know the job market in and out.

If you want to land an in-demand job, you’re going to have to become somewhat of an expert in the market and the industry. What specifically is in-demand? Who is hiring? What qualities and traits are most preferable? Who are the candidates landing these jobs? When’s the best time to break into the industry/role? If you feel comfortable with the answers to these questions, you’ll have a firmer grasp on your job search process.

Be patient.

The nature of an in-demand job is that you’ll have a lot of competition. Rather than see this as discouraging, view this as something you simply need to be aware of. Landing an in-demand job can be more of a process, but don’t let that discourage you!

Extend your net far and wide.

When you’re in pursuit of an in-demand job, it’s best to extend your net as far and wide as you can. Apply for a lot of jobs, apply at a lot of companies, and keep with it. You never know where you’re going to get a bite. Of course it’s absolutely crucial to be discerning and selective when evaluating a job offer, but in order to get those offers, there’s a certain amount of heavy lifting that needs to be done.

And most importantly, go forth with confidence and good luck!
