Chicago may have been Frank Sinatra’s kind of town in his famous song, but today Glassdoor is making its mark on the Windy City. We’re excited to announce the opening of our new Chicago office. In May 2016, Glassdoor first announced it had found a permanent home for its Chicago-based team members in the Fulton Market neighborhood. Today, it’s open for business. Our grand opening celebration included food, festivities, a tour of the state-of-the-art facilities and a visit from Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel himself!

A State-of-the-Art Space
Glassdoor’s Chicago office is currently home to about 200 people, primarily focused on sales-related functions — but there’s plenty of room to grow. Located in the Fulton West building (managed by Sterling Bay), the space was architected in collaboration with Skender Construction and design firm Valerio Dewalt Train Associates, and incorporates Chicago themes throughout its design, including sweeping views of the city’s skyline.
“The Glassdoor office is Chicago,” said Joseph Valerio, principal at Valerio Dewalt Train Associates. “We integrated activity nodes that shape and curve space in a way that reflects both new initiatives and a continued commitment to employee empowerment.”See Open Jobs
A Chicago-Centric Theme
Local flair is found within every element of Glassdoor's new office. Conference rooms are named after Chicago neighborhoods like Lake View and Boys Town (right), landmarks like Sears Tower and even films, such as Ferris Bueller.
“We selected Chicago because of its midwest location, its vibrant community, and incredible talent pool and we have been pleased with our decision,” said Robert Hohman, Glassdoor CEO and co-founder.
“The talent of our residents, vibrancy of our innovation community and diversity of our expanding economy make Chicago the ideal home for a world-class tech company like Glassdoor to grow,” added Mayor Emanuel.
Creative Touches, Everywhere You Go
Each conference room features unique art and graphics, developed in collaboration with Glassdoor’s own brand design team and Media Objectives, an interdisciplinary design studio housed within Valerio Dewalt Train Associates. The custom-made mural on the right was handpainted by Glassdoor's own Associate Art Director Jille Natalino.
"[We] worked with local leadership to form a focus group of local employees and managers to give input on what features and functions were most important for productivity (and fun!) and how to theme the space and the conference rooms," said Rick Friedman, Senior Director of Global Real Estate + Facilities at Glassdoor.
Good for Your Career, Good for the Environment
While Glassdoor's new office is a feat of manmade architecture, it also seamlessly incorporates the natural world.
The "space [was] designed to give open office areas [the] maximum benefit of natural light," Friedman said. This includes two outdoor patios on the sixth floor, as well as an outdoor courtyard on the ground level.
Keeping things eco-friendly was also top-of-mind for the team behind the new office.
"Part of working at a company you love is, for many people, being at a company that is environmentally sensitive and aware. [The new office] takes advantage of opportunities to reduce environmental impact and save energy, water and other resources," Friedman added.
Beyond Glassdoor Chicago's environmental innovation, the new office includes a range of high-tech features like best-in-class video conferencing, iPad room scheduling, acoustically-optimized phone booths, ergonomic workstations, the latest and greatest wifi, smart elevators featuring buttonless transport and even an IT vending machine where a simple swipe of your badge will grant you access to peripherals like dongles and chargers.
